I've said this before but who medals will be determined by who can close in around 57 seconds in a fast race, not by best effort time trial ability
...
Name one race that women closed in around 57 in a fast race, not 59.5...you said 57. I'm waiting for you to name the race in which that happens. Women don't close in 57 even in a slow race! 😆
in Budapest Kipyegon closed the final lap in the 1500 in 56.63 (winning time 3:54.87) and in the 5000 she closed in 56.69. Anyone planning to beat her will need to close in 57 or faster.
To whoever said Nikki won't be at Ellie at the Olympics, I agree. Ellie remembers she beat Tsegay and than Tsegay ran 3:50. I would have to believe Ellie felt the 5000m took something out of her legs ilat the Trials and is looking for bigger things in just the 1500m.
It wouldn't surprise me if the race goes out in 2:02 to 2:04 and Ellie positions herself in the top 4 while Nikki is conservative waiting for people to crash that WON'T. Ellie know this is her LAST real chance to medal in the Olympic 1500m and will run herself in the ground to try and grab medal. 3:52.8 to 3:53.7 or BUST for Ellie

What? You have always been one of the most cognitively challenged posters here. You possess a pedestrian mind, straining to grasp the most rudimentary concepts, drowning in insecurity, starving for attention (hence the all caps), always gushing over this or that new talent, always a thread starter, and trolling without any talent, offering sophomoric insults when someone puts you in your place.

Yeah, that was a bit of a silly thing for VIPAM to say in this age of multiple 3:49-3:51 women.
-Remember 015 & 2016 when Kipyegon and Dibaba ran their last 800s in ~1:57?
-Kipyegon closed her recent WR in 59.32
-All 3 medalists closed in 57.45 or faster in Budapest:
…Anyway, I have zero issue whatsoever with T&F News listing Hull behind DIRIBE WELTEJI. Welteji took silver last year by closing a 3:55.69 in 57.45. Welteji then ran 3:53.93 for 2nd behind Kipyegon in the DL final, and then beat Kipyegon to win the road mile championship. This year she front-ran 3:53.75 at Pre to beat Hull by 2.22 seconds. Yes, she hasn’t run 3:50.83, but that was such a shock result for Hull that there’s no guarantee she’ll ever run that time again AND no knowing if whether Welteji could have been right there with her had she raced in that Paris DL.

On your best day your still a joke, Boy BYE, have a nice life!
Yes I am in complete agreement about Welteji. She is 22 years old and her improvement has seemed more organic and sustainable than Hull’s. She could end up the GOAT in the event, although I would be surprised. She ran 1:57.02 when she was still a 3:56 runner and now that she has proven to be at least a 3:53 runner, one wonders what she can do at 800m.

Can you think of something negative to say about this poster?

He could just as easily be describing you as well. You both (you and Vipam) come across as know-it-alls who think you are just smarter than anyone else who posts - neither of you are, you are both deluded old-timers who have nothing better to do than post incessantly here all day long. Very tiresome, and it is negatively affecting the quality of posting these days - which is why this site has gone downhill the past few years (since Covid anyway).

We are all entitled to our opinion but doesn't mean your opinion of me is correct. He stated my post was dumb because the race could very easily be won in 4:00 plus. When was the last time a major 1500m championship was won in over 4 minutes and Faith Kipyegon was part of the field?

“I'm waiting for you to name the race in which that happens. Women don't close in 57 even in a slow race!” - Someone named one (sub-57 and multiple 57.x) and proved you wrong

Yes I think Nikki and Ellie can run sub 3:54 BUT it will take a near perfect race for either of them. With the big 3 now Kipyegon, Tsegay, and Hull will 3:53.7 even be enough to medal and what's wrong with T&F News. The have Jessica Hull out of the medals in 4th...WTH?
Ellie did not taper until the Olympics. She did not taper for trials. She stated this in a recent Allie on the Run Podcast. If all of these other 1500 runners that Ellie has beaten have dropped 5+ seconds after they tapered, I am expecting that Ellie is going to be that much faster too. Given that she front ran 3:55.9 at trials, I think she is going to be with the front runners in the home stretch. Tapered and with no 5K rounds in her legs. I know some on here think this is a crazy take, but I think she is going to challenge Kipyegon for the gold. She has had the experience now of being a world champion, and her training and racing has been insane. What she was able to do in the 1500 after winning a competitive 5K. Both the men's and women's 1500m are what I am most excited to watch in the entire Olympics.
I also think Hiltz is going to surprise people. I had the sense after their trials win that they could have gone faster if needed. I don't think we have seen Hiltz or St. Pierre at their absolute best yet.

I agree that Nikki and Ellie both have more to give but 8f both ran their absolute best, .my pick is Ellie over Nikki. It would take near perfect races but if they can get great position tactical wise and run their ABSOLUTE BEST in a super fast 1500m FINAL:
Ellie St.P.......3:52.15
Nikki.......,.....3:53.70
I wouldn't be surprised by either of those times for either athlete but even then would either be enough to medal?

Olympic medals are not won based on a time trial. The person with the best strategy and kick wins. I don't care if you're PR is 3:53 or 3:58

I love how there is a whole thread about Cole Hocker being a potential dark horse for gold. So, it is possible that he suddenly takes seconds off of his PR and beats two men who have consistently beat him even though he was not able to pull off the 1500/5000 double at trials. He crapped out in the 5000m. It is all possible for Hocker, but not possible for St. Pierre who won a world championship at indoor has been running her fastest times ever despite not tapering yet, AND pulled off the difficult 1500/5000 double making both teams which no one else was able to do. Somehow she only has a few extra seconds in her but Hocker is going to pull off the impossible.
I am a fan of Hocker. I am rooting hard for him and absolutely think on the right day that he could win gold. He is tough and a very savvy racer. But ESP is all of those things and more. No one has to agree with me. In just a short time the results will speak for themselves. I just think the inability to recognize and appreciate real talent in women on this sight is so disheartening sometimes.

If Jess Hull can run 3:50, ESP can too. She just hasn't tapered yet. She is capable of running faster than 3:52. You are underestimating her, and when she runs at 100% and shows her true speed people on here who have not been paying attention to her progression since Millrose in February are going to swear she is doping.

A six second improvement from tapering is not going to happen and she’s more likely to be capable of 3:55. T&F News predicts she will finish in 8th place.
