I split a 52-high in a half marathon and have never gone under 60 in the 400 (despite numerous attempts). My best is 60-point. I am male.

When I was 20, I could do both. But now that I am 40, there is no way in hell I'm running a sub-60 quarter, but I could spin off a sub-60 (flat) 10-miler any given weekend.

I never broke 60 for the 400, but never raced it that frequently either. Think the best I ever did was a 62. Ran 57:24 for 10 miles last fall. Not sure if that's something to be proud of or not.
I can run 10mi in 60mins but can't run a sub 60 quarter.
Me. Never broke 60 in a quarter in my life. Ran 53:37 for 10 miles, 31:46 for 10K, 24:20 for 8K, and 14:50 for 5K.
This is the Worse Thread Ever!
I can run 54 min. for 10 miles right now, but I really doubt I could break 60 seconds for a 400 right now. I just don't do that kind of speed work anymore. The fastest I ever run for a 400 now is about 66-68, when I'm really going nuts..
broke 60 on my 12th quarter last week, and then a couple days later had 10mile tempo in 53:20. There is no correlation.
I never broke 60 in high school or college or ever-although I only run them during intervals. I have no fast twitch muscles at all. I ran 26 minute for 5 mile XC in college and ran under 60 minutes in 10 mile at age 40.
Is this question any better than asking if anyone can break 60 in a quarter and not in a 10 miler?
I had run 52:12 for 10 miles in high school when my 440y PR was still 60.8 in a race.
I eventually ran 58.2 for 440y in a workout and 46:55 for 15,000m (5:02 mile pace).
In high school 63 was my best 440 but ran an 11 mile race in 66 mins
is there anyone here who can break 50 secs for the 400m and break 50mins for a 10 mile?
Don't you think most guys that can run under 60 minutes in a 10 mile could run 60.0 in a 400 if they worked on it for a little while though?
Yeah, I've run 49.0 for 400m in a race and 50:00 for 10 miles during marathon training on several occasions. I ended up running 2:18:13.
hi skoolr
My PR is 65 for the quarter and I've run 56 for 10 miles (en-route during a half marathon, my pace slowed a bit the last couple miles to average 5:41 pace for the half marathon). I ran a 65 quarter once, in high school; my next fastest is 67. My 200 PR is 30.1. I worked at it a little bit in high school, especially when our track coach quit my sophomore year and we got a new coach for my junior and senior years who only knew how to coach sprinters and jumpers. Since high school, I haven't run faster than 67.
Ha, this topic probably didn't turn out like the original poster thought it would.
Add me to the list of people who can't touch 60 seconds for 400m but could lace up and run 60 minutes for 10 miles anytime, anywhere.
When I was younger I could run 54 for 400m and at that point could probably not run under 60:00 for 10 miles (6 months of longer mileage training after the 54 I managed 59:30). My eventual 10 mile PR got down to about 55:00.
Last year (before an injury took me out) I had come back into shape to run near or under 60:00 for 10 miles but my fastest 400m was 68 (trainers on a dirt track). While I know I could have done better on a real track with spikes, I know I couldn't have broken 60 for 400m at that point.
I'm pretty sure that given a couple years of training I could knock my 10 mile PR down to 53:00 but I will be very surprised if I ever see the other side of 60 for 400m again.
Check this out. No joke...
400m PR = 63 seconds
10 mile = 51:47
Quite a discrepancy, eh? Oh yeah!
I am the opposite of all you talentless guys on here?
In high school 400- 51
10mile run - 64min
since then a lot has changed but I always had speed, the 10miler took lots of time and training to get down.
