It is not true that he elbowed Obiri in the 10000m final at the 2022 world championships.
Gidey was always ahead of Obiri in that race.
In the final sprint Obiri approached Gidey slightly but was unable to pass her.
Just look at the images of the race.
In 2023 XC Barthurst didn't "give up", she felt ill and collapsed on the ground. Two of the Ethiopian team immediately intervened and helped her get up.
Here too just look at the images.
Furthermore, it was not the first time that she had an illness at the end of a race.
Gidey has always been a top-notch athlete.
At 16, she came third in the Ethiopian national championships in the 5000 m won by Almaz Ayana.
Gidey, at just 23 years old, *simultaneously* held 4 world records, 5000m, 10000m, 15km, half marathon.
No one has ever succeeded before. Neither among men nor among women.
She is one of the best athletes in the world.
In the last 4-5 years no athlete has won so much over 10,000m.
She won 4 medals (1 gold, 2 silver, 1 bronze), between Olympics and world championships, in the 10,000m, from 2019 to 2023.
No one else has managed to win so much in the 10,000m.
And she just turned 26, she still has many years ahead where she can win again.
She has only one big problem.
She's not as strong in the final sprint.
She is perfect until 200-300m from the end.
Then the others manage to pass her in the final sprint.
She have lost many races, too many, in this way.
In the Tokyo Olympics she led the 10,000m until 200 meters to go when she was passed by Sifan Hassan and an unknown girl.
Same thing in the 10,000m final at the world championships in Budapest.
And in the 10000m final in Doha, in 2019.
Same thing in the 2023 New York Marathon.
These are all races (World Championship finals, Olympics) lost in the exact same way.
Since this is a known thing, I don't understand why she haven't tried to solve the problem in all these years.
If she could solve, even partially, the problem of the final sprint she would win many more races.
