    Lane assignment doesn’t matter on races run entirely on the straightaway.

    tracks don't get more chewed up or awkwardly repaired lane 1? you've never run next to a chain link fence out in 8/9 before? you don't want to know what's going on in other lanes?

    Performance in each round dictates which lane you get for the next round, so I think they have to hold a 'meaningless' heat.

    She finished fourth and did not make the team. Maybe jogging a heat had something to do with that fourth-place finish. This thread did not age well.
