If you have a torn hamstring, why lodge a protest to get the race re-run?

Good question. Probably because she desperately wants to compete in the Olympics. Her hamstring has improved enough to run, but that doesn’t mean she’s 100 percent. And it’s very easy to aggravate a hamstring injury.

She could probably still change countries and get into the Olympics by another country that appoints their team. I would hate to see it but her parents are from South Sudan. I don't know the current rules but is that the independent team?

Someone has a low IQ. Like wow. Preparation is where the injury would have come into play, and almost inevitably led to Athing not leading and then the fall.

Ultimately, they don't take any responsibility for getting her injured, not communicating to the public that she was injured (she had a private post about it), not racing her at all before she was injured, and for running into Rogers's foot and causing the fall when she turned her head to where she wanted to go without looking to see whether the way was clear.

Take responsibility? Get a life. They owe you nothing.

Just to be clear. A strain IS a tear. All strains and pulls are TEARS, just of lesser degrees (essentially "grade one" or less).

This article and story from her "camp" is weird. I've got a LOT of experience with tears of all kinds, and I'm not sure scooting around on ANY grade of a tear, whether a "3" (she wouldn't have recovered in a month with a three) or a grade "1" or less is a wise treatment option. Keeping your muscle healing ONLY in the shortened position is counter intuitive to someone trying to gain full function in it as quickly as possible.

If this is all accurate and true, it stinks of mismanagement. That would be the REAL thing at fault for her predicament; that means responsibility would lay upon her coach, and to possibly a lesser degree on herself for CHOOSING the coach and team she has. The system has no role in ANY of that.

I doubt she is that desperate to compete. Furthermore if she switched country she'd have to wait until late 2026 to compete as there's a 3 year waiting period, except for humanitarian cases (e.g. you switched because your federation was abusing you) where the period can be waived

Yes I do, but if we are going to claim a strain as a "tear" that's a bit too far and most know the difference.

I don’t feel she should be given a 4*400 meter spot. She hasnt finished a 400 in years.. who is to say what kinda shape or even what time she could run for a 400?

if she gets a 400 relay spot, that is allowing politics into the selection process. Picking the fastest 400 meter runners with times from this season is the way to select the best runners and eliminate politics.

In relation to this issue an the core topic (Mu and.the injury) it would be interesting if they (she, or her camp) report3$ the depths of the injury (not the vague "torn hamstring!", but the grade of tear). Id bet money it was a grade one or something of the like. Probably something you might call...a strain.

If you aren't healthy enough to make the team a month out, you aren't going to be a factor in Paris anyway.

Now in this case, she fell but my point still applies. Given the amount of training she msised, she's not going to win gold. Maybe she gets a bronze. But Nia might be able to do that herself.

DO NOT OVERHAUL THE SYSTEM.

Now I would overhaul the rules to protect the stars a tiny bit. If someone ranked in the top 5 in the world falls in the first 400 of the 800, stop the race and re-run it. If a top 5 sprinter in the world false starts, do not DQ them, just move them back 2 meters.

The Trials though are the best selection process in the world. See who is fittest one month out.

I can't believe the admit she was badly injured and then ask for the Trials to be overhauled. We wouldn't be letting in a gold medal favorite to the team. We'd be letting in a super injured former gold medallist. No thank you.
