Grant Fisher constantly got out kicked in NCAA championships his whole career that he otherwise should have won and now he’s the best distance runner in American history. Based on Sahlman losing his legs in the 1500m and Nico getting out kicked in the 5k I would imagine they refocused attention on the trials and trained through.
Are we really going to let this guy get away with calling Grant Fisher the best distance runner in American history? Not even close.
Whom would you nominate?
I happen to like a couple of my old LATC teammates, like Bob Schul and Jim Beatty, as well as my friend Billy Mills.
Agreed. Last night was a complete and utter disaster for Nico. How do you not win? Indoor national championships just aren’t the same as outdoor. He needed this. I honestly think he should consider hanging up the spikes and calling it a career
Remember that year when Mario Garcia Romo was 2nd at NCAAs and few weeks later 4th at World Champs?
Some of you guys are speaking as if it was Nico's right to win the race and no one else was capable of winning which isn't true. Theres at least 5 guys on a similar level to Nico in the NCAA.
I didn't watch much NCAA track this year, so I'm surprised you say there were five guys on a similar level. Samuel comes to mind. I suppose Wolfe too since he beat him? And then Robinson, though he didn't seem quite on the same level to me. Who would be the others? And are these guys really on the same level as Nico?

Blanks. Looks like he’s pretty much back at full strength and should be in an even better position for trials. Samuel looks good too. Next year, it’s going to be Blanks, Samuel and Wolfe(if he doesn’t turn pro) battling it out in the NCAAs. Blanks should be the favorite in XC and Wolfe 3 and 5k indoors. I think Graham is a little better over longer distance and Wolfe better in the 3-5k range.

Nico Young: sub 27/13 2 NCAA titles. No world teams, two NCAA records
Robinson: 2 titles, Australian world teams
Samuel: Falling and then winning over a similar field that Nico just lost to. That alone
Wolfe: Beating Nico literally puts him above him currently. Not sure how that looks by the trials but clearly similar level athletes.
Then there's like 3 more 1500 guys of similar caliber to these guys in my opinion.

love it when people look at themselves as being so smart “you heard it here first”. like you just know something no one else are smart enough to know 🤣🤣🤣
Last night's performance was unimpressive. He chose to let the pace dawdle and got outkicked by a 3:36/13:13 guy.
At the Trials, there will be four Americans who are eligible to run in the Olympics 10000: Grant Fisher, Woody Kincaid, Nico Young, and Paul Chelimo.
Fisher and Kincaid are locks, assuming they are healthy. The third spot will go to either Young or Chelimo.
Chelimo has a ferocious kick and is known for performing well in big races. He seems to be rounding into decent form, whereas Young's fitness may be waning. Chelimo's PR is much slower than Young's but that won't matter in an unrabbited 28:00ish race. This isn't The Ten and there won't be any Wavelights.
In the 5000, I like Young's chances even less. In a fast race, he's unlikely to beat Fisher, Teare or Kincaid. In a slow race (the Trials 5000 is always slow), he will be unable to outkick Fisher, Teare, Kincaid, Abdi Nur or Cole Hocker (if Hocker chooses to run). It wouldn't surprise me if Olin Hacker and Parker Wolfe also beat Young.
