Injuries happen, every coach is gonna end up with injured athletes no matter what. They still have Nuguse sitting on Kerr and Jakobs heels, and then Beamish, Hoare, McDonald, and Garcia Romo all running well.
Some have highlighted the athletes having success with OAC above.
And yes, injuries happen.
However, if you asked the person who hired Dathan Ritz to coach OAC a few years ago: what would be the biggest failure to make sure to avoid in the next few years?
The answer would probably be getting your top 2 US prospects, the people you founded your Men's and Women's groups around, injured so they can't even compete in the Olympic trials in 2024.
I would say the person who hired him doesn't care about anything, except global medals, at any cost.
So doubt he'd care about the broken souls left behind. It's all about Obiri, Nuguse, Beamish and some desperate recruiting to try and paint over the cracks.
The people in this thread saying “injuries happen” and that it has nothing to do with coaching couldn’t be more wrong. It’s not 100% on the coach. The athletes have to do their part. But to say that the coaching/training doesn’t play a factor? Come on.
My wild theory, didn't these injuries to OAC's long distance grinders start to crop up a few months after Obiri joined the group? I think Klecker and Monson have both mentioned doing long runs (Klecker) and workouts (Monson) with her. I think it's possible her presence has caused them to overdo the training.
Let's also remember that OAC has dramatically exceeded even the most optimistic projections for their group when it first started. I thought Klecker and Monson both projected as solid pros likely to be perennial 5-7th place finishers at the trials. No one was calling Hoare or Beamish future medal threats. Nuguse joined with a lot of hype, but we weren't talking 3:43.
Injuries are part of the game. Klecker's injury was likely a result of pushing through illness heading into the Ten. Just really poor timing to get injured just like Grant last year. Monson has been a killer for the last 3 seasons without any signs of slowing down. Unfortunate timing. Outside of them two, everyone else is on track. Morgan finally had his outdoor breakthrough 5k, Beamish won the indoor 1500, Nuguse is 3rd in the 1500, Mario usually starts out the season slow and rounds into form, Sage just ran 1:58. Pretty good overall honestly.
All injuries are indicative of only one thing: flying too close to the sun and getting burned.
As Jack Daniels once said, you don't necessarily need to do more or faster....just do the same but let the effort feel progressively easier as the body adapts.
I think everyone on the On team would say the juice is worth the squeeze, except maybe McDonald. They've got a great brand and probably have the best up-and-coming training group of 1500m runners anywhere in the world.

They sure have their juice being squeezed into them. That’s for sure
Definitely something was going on with Andrews too. Stopped posting on Strava and when called on it went “private”. The dropped out of Penn 1500 and went MIA since February. Let’s see what the 1500 in Portland looks like. Must be coming back from injury like the typical Ritz crew.
Yawn! Another one that you can’t count on. Could care less frankly.

If you want to compete at the elite level, pushing the edge of the envelope is necessary and unfortunately getting injured is part of the game. The key is learning why you got injured and to adjust accordingly. You'll never know your limits unless you push pass them at some point.
