The better the field the worse the chances. Nobody wants to set a world record and lose the race. With Kerr, Nuguse and Ingebrigtsen all in the race the goal will be to win, not set a world record although with pacesetters the time should be fast.
get used to Jakob losing on that bum leg of his. His Achilles heel is his Achilles heel.
How many alt usernames you going to be posting on after the race, crying about how Jakob’s win doesn’t mean much since everyone isn’t peaking until Olympics blah blah blah 😂 🤡
soon the only username I'll need will be "Jakob Done-gebrigtsen"
I hear you all loud and clear. It's early in the season, the boys will be in the middle of Olympics prep and it's going to be warm and windy. But... I'm not backing down. It was warm and windy last year, and as OP mentioned pacing was a little rocky/Jakob was doing all the work by himself.
Let's say that the weather is reasonable and pacing is solid. We know the beef between Jakob and Kerr is real, the level of pure hate on that track will be through the roof. Throw in the depth of the field and we have the perfect storm.
I think we're going to see a new WR and all the naysayers on this thread will be going home devastated.
nothing about this race will be focused on running fast, it'll be a huge ego war of 'who finishes ahead of who before the Olympics'
The pecking order is all they'll care about, sure it might be quick if some people want to sort the pecking order by stringing it out, but not WR-quick
And the only way jakob will win is if its fast. So my bet is he makes it as fast as he know he's in shape for.
Kerr and Nuguse can go with him if its semi fast, Beamish, Hocker, and Centro kick them down if its slow.
Depth and talent are there. Seems like there should be a real shot of WR going down, especially if they have a decent pacer (pacing was pretty rough at this event last year). Someone that understands this better than I do, please explain - what are the chances that we can see a new mile WR in 2 weeks?
<5%, maybe even less. It’s May in an Olympic year, with many of these guys having only raced 1-2 times this outdoor season.
If this was in September like last year I would almost expect the wr with that filed. But alas it is only May, so I see a fast race but nothing approaching the world record. Would love to be wrong tho!
I'd love it if they didn't have pacers or lights for this race. Make it a real championship preview and just let them race. I really don't care about the time when we have a field this good.

Minimal, because they probably won´t go for it.
If Jakob tries to break a WR/ WB he normally announces it well ahead.
And it must be VERY unlikely that Nuguse or Kerr will go for it without Jakob front running.

Les, now you are silly. Nobody will lose the race IF he set WR.
You probably meant that nobody wants to TRY and then lose the race.
I don´t think Jakob would like have Nuguse and Kerr around if he is front running - after the pacemaker drops out - for a WR.

Centro has had a surprising fast season opener but outkicking Jakob? Tame your patriotism AND REMIND ME HOW MANY TIMES THE PRAISED FINISHER CENTRO HAS OUTKICKED THE SNAIL JAKOB?

Not sure if patriotism is really the culprit, but yes, the idea of Centro kicking down the main players in this race is ridiculous. Centro never factored in the more competitive DLs, for one, and when he was kicking for medals it was because he was an early/mid-twenties 3:30/1:44 guy. Now that he’s a mid-thirties 3:35/1:48 guy, there’s no pace at which Ingebrigtsen/Kerr/Nuguse, et al, don’t blow him away.
Honestly, Centro should be ranked or seeded dead last in this field - 15th out of 15. I hope he runs well and gets a few scalps of others who don’t, but his chances of finishing in the top half are extremely low.

It’s probably too big a field for that to be wise. The pacers are likely only going 8-900m so the race may be plenty strategic. But if you went no pacers with 15 racers, you’re opening up for falls. With a 1:53 opener, you lower the chaos as Centro, Myers, Beamish and Gourley will likely be content in the back.

3%. Jakob is the only who would push the pace, and all we know about him is that he is coming off an injury right now.
