I think Valby will run sub 15:00. The race is on her home track. You're right though, the Gators don't have the depth to win the SEC but are a treat for Nationals which is always the greater goal.
It is not clear the FL women are a threat for Nationals this year.
The Gator's men should be strong contenders at Nationals but all would havr to go right. Arkansas women have great depth and are hard to beat.
She will likely perform the minimal effort needed to win the race. Her only hard race before the trials will likely be the ncaa championship. Everything else should be buildup work for the trials.

I don't know if she knows how to take it easy. She might have to have a teammate pace her to avoid running too fast like they did indoors in the 3k. Make Thorner/ Rourke/Asekol pace her for 1 or 2k.
No, she has the standard already and the weather is already brutal in Florida, around 90 each day this week and very humid. If they held the race at 6:30-7 a.m., that would be a different story, quite good conditions, though humid.
Too bad the location of meets never considers the weather. Seems like distance runners are always up against the worst possible conditions.
The meet rotates every year. You know it's the SOUTHEASTERN Conference, right?

Most top runners don’t run anywhere near PR level at conference and she ran 15:25 at the meet last year. In an upset loss to a runner with a better kick, would have no affect on how she runs at either the NCAAs or OT.
Lord willing, can the two-time distance collegiate record holder, debuting on her home track in front of a home crowd, break the collegiate Outdoor 5000m record, setting the facility and meet records in the process???

Good weather for distance running is terrible weather for spectating (probably their first concern) and for sprinting and throwing. I like mid-40s for distance stuff but that's just awful if you're trying to convince people to sit in bleachers all day. Sucks for the distance runners but that's just how it works (with the exception of marathons)

Is it hard to find a teammate to volunteer to be 'the turtle'?
