That's the only person I could think of too but there are no signs I can find that suggest he had a broken jaw just before the wc in eugene. He raced at that meet and seemed happy enough with his performance.

I was at a loss as to who it could be but , I was thinking about who in Telford's group has left the MTC but couldn’t think of any.

But Buckingham was once MTC and is now an ON athlete.

But has ON had a more successful domestic season then the MTC though? Rayner won zatopek and Ramsden won the 5000, but other then Hollingsworth running well and Buckingham 2nd in steeple ON haven’t done much.

Anyway, from my limited impression of what I’ve seen of Buckingham, if I had to choose for a pro runner in Australia to get punched in the jaw by Ramsden, he’s the guy I’d choose.

He is definitely not one of the best, nor does he "deserve" the opportunities. He has benefited from being a big fish in a small pond. Didn't go to uni (and it shows), and is affiliated with the most dominant pro group in Australia.

Despite having probably more DL starts than any Australian not named Stewey, his personal bests are 3:34, 13:16 and 32:38. He consistently is put in fast races, and bottles it.

For example, Cam Myers has run faster in the 1500 in Australia, and as a teenager. So no perfect pacing, no incredibly fast train to grab on to. Rambo is the 12th fastest Aussie over 1500 THIS YEAR, and is the 3rd fastest 5k guy. It's also early season - in 2023 he was only ranked 8th in the 5k. So it wouldn't surprise me if Sharp and Robinson both run faster despite being 3 and 5 years younger, respectively. Keep in mind Ky has run 10 seconds faster (again, he's 5 years younger). If Rambo qualifies, it will be based off of ranking, which is boosted by getting DL starts (higher caliber meet comes with higher points, and more likely to be fast). Compare that to others who he's racing against and frequently losing to like Callum Davies etc.

I always thought he was hyped up so much because of his face value physical attributes ie, he looks the likely type, tall, lean and a smooth mover (the opposite of Callum Davies). On the Davies point, he is now a part of MTC as well.

Irrespective of the MTC talk, just shows half the battle is getting in the right races.

Can you please just tell us everything in detail about why Ramsden is a douche.

I’m not denying that he is, but just tell us why, and go into great detail about the punching incident, including who got punched, and the context, as well as the aftermath, if you know.

His PBs in the 1500m, mile, 2000m, 3000m, and 5000m do indeed put him in the category of one of our best. I know you know this but you don't have the humility to admit it. The fact you mention his 9 year old 10000m 'PB' in your post shows how pathetically prejudiced you are against the man. He's also a great racer when fully fit and when it comes down to a tight finish he has produced some brilliant closing bursts to come out on top - such as Zatopek last December and this race yesterday. I don't care what you wankers think, I congratulate Rambo on his SECOND national 5000m title! 👏👏👏

I wonder what he thinks he’ll be doing in the future then?

I read in an interview that his dad thought he should take the opportunity to run with a college in the USA because he would have taken that opportunity if it was available to him as a boxer (fighting runs in the family then) but Ramsden decided not to so he could train with the MTC (which I think is the right idea to get fast times, but Bideau doesn’t periodise his runners very well for championships).

I just checked and saw that Ramsden is a student in the bachelor of laws at Deakin, he has a profile on their website because he’s an elite athlete.

Though on the topic of uni and elite Australian runners, I couldn’t imagine a Brett Robinson studying anything, does anyone know what he has done academically?

I couldn’t see Rayner or Ryan Gregson bothering with uni either.

Ramsden threw away his 2023 National bronze medal in the 1500m. This was seen as incredibly disrespectful to Athletics Australia and to his fellow competitors.

Was he just that annoyed that he didn’t win?

I was there and yes, he was annoyed he didn't win. Not a good look for someone who has a sizeable running group that pay to be coached by him.

Literally nobody in Australian running dislikes Ramsden, seems to be universally respected from my perspective.
