I think based on the schedule, the first girls 3200 race is in progress now. No boys race has started
someone said they go off at 9:00. Someone who is there give me updates on splits. I want to know live how much better utah is than pathetic california
Simmons follows up with an 8:42. One other under 9:00.

And the second sub-9 is on the same team as Simmons
Andie Aagard ran a 10:45 in the 3200, second behind Avalon Mecham. I believe this is her first year of track ever.
She won NXR SW 2022 in her first year of XC ever

She is a world class cross country mountain biker. Last summer she finished 8th at the junior world championship.
She previously said she wasn't going to run in college but has now changed her mind which is why she is running track this season.

I've seen a little bit of chat about the Pine View Invitational this year, but I don't think people understand how impressive this is.
JoJo Jourdon won in 4:04.6, Danny Simmonds in 4:04.78.
FOUR boys ran sub 4:10 in this race. Last year, including meets like Arcadia and Brooks PR, (sea level) 6 athletes broke 4:10 ALL SEASON.
TWENTY ONE boys ran sub 4:20 in this one race, (THREE MORE in other heats) something only around 40 boys did last year in Utah.
Utah has always been a top 5 state for distance running at the high school level, but with California not having a dominant team since Great Oak/Newbury have fallen off (slightly for the former, immensely for the latter) Utah might just be the most competitive state in the US by the end of 2024 (for the record I don't think they have this title yet)
Don't take this as, "Well, that's not so great..", because I understand that per capita Utah is the best HS distance state, and those meet results are quite special and deserve notice. Just take this as more data, in terms of depth.
At the Azusa Meet of Champions, 36 runners ran under 4:20 in the various races (5 under 4:10). Not 21 in one race because the fields were smaller. But that was not even necessarily the marquee race, and entirely different set of runners (no one doubled that I can see) ran the 3200m within an hour and 33 runners broke 9:20. So that's 69 runners either sub 4:20 or sub 9:20. Also another 16 broke 1:55 in the 800m.
Again, I am not trying to debate which is "better", just that there are other really fast meets. I am happy to simply acknowledge there is a lot fast running going on right now! And there is much more ahead. Hopefully the weather at Arcadia is its usually conditions, and then we'll see them run even faster. Utah usually has a pretty big presence at Arcadia and runs well there.
