He's marginally outsprinting the competition during a weak era in the sport. He's done nothing to advance the sport except beefing it up a bit with the NBA. That was good, but I put value on results.

There's a performance gap here that doesn't justify world record contracts.
The notion that this is a weak era is a great exaggeration in my opinion. Bolt's era simply spoiled us: he made others around him better. Regardless, there are active sprinters in the top 10 all time right now (Coleman, Bromell, Omanyala, Kerley) and the Tokyo Olympics' winning time was one of the fastest winning times for an Olympics. 9.8 really is not slow, Bolt just made us think it is
Yeah calling this era weak is, uh, weak. We've got A LOT of great sprinters now.
I have no real proof, but I suspect early to late 2000s sprints saw a lot more chemical help than we're seeing now. Things like SARMs were a bit easier to get away with.
Sha'Carri. She already moves the needle way more than Lyles with the US public. And if she wins Olympic gold, after being forbidden from running in 2021, she's basically the number one female athlete in America.

The specific allegation was that sprint fans, who demographically comprise a high percentage of black people, think he's a punk and do not like him, will not root for him and certainly will not pay to see him. Another example would be Serena Williams, if you looked at this site alone, one would believe she is /was a hack with no talent and one of the most hated athletes, yet Nike paid/pays her a fortune. The two have nothing to do with each other. The fact (if it is a fact) that Adidas paid Lyles a large sum of money does not mean that there is not a significantly large group of black, sprint fans that simply cannot stand Noah Lyles. Yeah, by the end we agree that you backtracked to Noah not being black enough as opposed to him “turning away actual sprint fans”. If he was driving away more fans than he was drawing in then he wouldn’t have the biggest contract since Bolt. That’s the point.
He drives the new generation of sprint fans. Look at the stands in any European or American meet like Penn Relays, it is filled with Gen Z.
