yes. Morales is peaking for indoors next week. all those runners you mentioned were peaking for worlds/olympics later in the year. i don’t think WVN even ran indoor once.
there is a reason the last 3 world indoor 400 record holders (including Morales) have been collegiate runners.
i’ve been thinking about this since yesterday but one thing that really stands out is that this record wasn’t run at altitude, like 90% of the times on the world indoor all time list.
a 400m at 7000 feet could subtract as much as half a second. it’s not a stretch of the imagination to think that had SECs been in new mexico or somewhere else at 7000 or so feet morales-williams could have run under 44.
the top 3 all time in the indoor 400 are all collegiate runners, and Kerron Clement was also 19 when he set his time. I don't even remember seeing Wayde run indoors tbh, nor has Gardiner done an indoor 4 etc. They probably don't care. The WR might be around 43.9 if someone cared
Will Canada put a men 4x400 team together? I can’t remember the last time that they did.
Think the national record is still from 1976 (Montreal Olympics?) 3.02xx. The guys on that team (if still alive) are now in their 70's.
The up and comer was supposed to be Myles Misener-Daley (45.6 in HS). But Morales Williams has taken over that mantle. A few good young guys coming along, so hopefully they can put a team together soon - that record is closing on 50 years. Not sure if that is the last OG 4x4 for the men? Can't believe that if it is.
What is your opinion for elite professional T&F athletes peaking for indoors? In theory, a world record holder, 5000m athlete may be able to break indoor 3000m & 5000m indoor world records while not peaking for indoors. All others record holders are peaking for indoors which may be an issue, outdoors.
I've never run the indoor 400, but it appears to me that between the break for the inside after 200m and the "uphill"right after, plus tight turns, the indoor four is at least 0.7 slower, if not a full second for some.

goodday mate let's put another shrimp on the barbie
I’m not sure if sumner has been training in Australia.
He is being advised by Justin Rinaldi (the Australian coach of Peter Bol based in Melbourne) however.
You mean his coach? Rinaldi posted vid of Sumner running on an alterG in Austrialia a month or so ago on Twitter.
Injuries are not set backs, they are just challenges to find a new way forwards. If you think that ‘Plan A’ always works when you’re a coach, you are in for a rude awaking. pic.twitter.com/CXbDqygShF
I'd let Arop run on it. Do they have a time they have to run to qualify for the Olympics or another way to make it? With all of them at different colleges it would be hard for them to get together to run a qualifying time if so.
Just proves that lane 6 is a huge advantage on an indoor banked track. You start at the high point and have the highest potential energy of anyone in your race. You run downhill in to the break and the finish is lower than your starting point. It is a net downhill race from lane 6.

Perhaps Arop would be better than Roth. Arop ran 46.10 in 2022 (didn’t run 400m in 2023), so perhaps he would be a sub 46 guy. I also assume that he would be much better than a typical 400m guy with a running start. I can’t see him being great out of the blocks.
The record will never be ratified due to a technicality.
You were correct. The record will not be ratified due to technicality. Check the comments on the Instagram post. There's one with 600 likes, "And we wonder why track and field isn’t popular"
"@ustfccca has clarified that it will not be ratified as a world record due to an issue with the starting blocks. All blocks must be linked to a World Athletics-certified start information system.
He beat Michael Norman’s 44.52 record from the 2018 NCAA Indoor Championships but that mark wasn’t ratified because there wasn’t drug testing at the meet. Morales-Williams was drug tested after his race.
So the official world record remains Kerron Clement’s 44.57 run in 2005."
