You can debate maybe whether it’s inappropriate at a worlds or Olympics but at a college conference meet they are clearly teammates and they are helping their team get someone to NCAAs.

LOL, just watched the video and the only thing missing was a few wheelchair racers and a couple of trans athletes - looked like the local fun run at the annual village 5k.
The pacers had 0 impact anyway as they were gone early. They did go with the RickyBobby NASCAR start taking it high into turn 2 to avoid heavy traffic.
Very impressive from Valby. Her mini indoor season in Olympic year only 3 races.

Football's necessarily a team sport on each and every play. Track qualification is individual, except for the relays. So, your analogy doesn't apply. But Valby didn't need her teammates one bit to run a qualifier and win the 3k.

I was watching the big 12 5000. Seemed like you had to drop out if lapped? Is that a conference rule. It really doesn’t help the leader because they still have to pass them . So unless they were going to lap them twice it saves them no distance. Actually you could say it’s a disadvantage leading and lapping because you are the only one running extra distance

T&F and XC: It may have looked to other teams, once in 1mi. race, age 14 and once in XC race, age 15 that we were using team tactics with me as rabbit. Nope. I just messed up my pacing.
Football: Played Pop Warner. I was proud to play TE. Every play was a running play in games. We only passed in practice and scrimmages. I was proud to be a run-blocking TE.
If a T&F or XC coach wants her/his runners, 800m and longer to race as group, fine. Pull each other to the front and race fast. Rabbit for one athlete? I don't like it. At least you agree it is unethical at Olympics and W.C.
