Seems like a lot of hours and travel for crap pay. My kid is only young once. Curious if coaches that stuck it out with a family look back and wish they did a 9-5?
I turned down the one coaching offer I had (at a D1 school) for that reason- I had two young kids and was married and I didn't want to relocate them and I knew I wouldn't be able to spend time with them.
As it is- I coached high school then stopped, I just wasn't as excited about it anymore.
My first autumn not coaching in 25 years I couldn't believe everything I "missed". Free weekends in the fall- I live in Upstate NY and it's perfect scenery and weather.
Getting out of school and going right home with no other obligations.
As a high school coach I worked 6 days a week, 10-12 hours a day most of the school year.
It was very rewarding but you really do miss out on things. I guess it's a trade off you have to decide for yourself if it's worth it.
