Nice range indeed and I believe the fact that he secured 2nd place today was even more impressive than the raw time. However, he won't be a medal contender at any of those distances in Paris, sry. Even this (very good) time is almost 2 minutes slower than the world record.
Windy conditions and he was 2 seconds behind kibiwott kandie..
He has also confirmed in interviews in Swedish that he is using double threshold training. True he was injured during the fall last year and biked a lot as cross training. He has a speed reserve that few others have in 5000/10000m and with this new found endurance he will be very interesting to follow this summer.

he has done 2 double thresholds every single week since his injury per strava. Then saturday is 2 x 8x1min hill AM 3x10min PM or a harder session the week/2 before race.
IMO what this shows is the value of high volume Z2 cross training early in the off season. 10 weeks @ 20 hours per week seems to work pretty well!
Yes, I just had a look at his Strava. Very similar training program to the Norwegians'.
Actually he trains even harder. His easy days are usually 16 + 10 km rather than 10 + 10. Also his treshold days are at a higher volume as the weekend long run (25 k). Been doing 200 k + weeks all winter in Sierra Nevada. In the fall he was road biking due to a foot injury from the Worlds in August. He biked indoors and outdoors for about 100 miles (or 4-6 hours) almost every day ! Coached by Trek Segafredo bike-coach Mattias Reck. He even did an Alpe d'Huez time trial at Swift at 352 watts.
I might be wrong, but pretty sure Narve G. Nordås has increased his 10+10….
I imagine a lot could come at least very close if they were able to devote the time and energy, but life gets in the way. Work, family, sleep and nutrition get in the way for most.
Great performance. He will need to run qualifying times, or another strong 10K, but I’d like to see him target the 10,000 in particular.
Your wish is already granted, he's planning to run a 10000 in March where "a lot of Americans will be targeting 27 minutes". I don't know what race that is, but I'm sure someone here can tell us within minutes.

Bonus info: He said in a pod last year that he's been picking the brain of double Speed Skating World Record (5000 and 10000) holder Nils van der Poel. Seems like he listened good and well!

The Ten.
Can you be more specific about the date and the place for us outside the US?
It's March 16 in San Juan Capistrano, California, which is between Los Angeles and San Diego. This location makes good 10k running weather quite likely.

No one cares about your Dancan system. No wonder you do not coach any Swedes as they recognize your lies…… Can you even show up at a race w out being embarrassed Jan?

Oh that’s great he’s in there. I’d typically be not a big fan of The Ten, but few athletes in it would be ideally suited for mixing it up at World Indoors (3k too short) or World XC (not having shown that level of XC prowess). It’s now loaded to the point of an exciting race.

Comments like yours are so very silly)) Several hundreds of runners at all levels all over the world during now nine years of my Dancan coaching have been very pleased. Among them 10 winners of international races and huge numbers of personal bests. And I coach and coached pleased Swedes as well.......
I just had to comment your silly claim even if it's not the topic here in this thread.
To the topic about Almgren I just add he is a supertalented runner and I'm happy he eventually succeeded to become that world topclass runner I already told many years ago he would be.
Readers of this can check Almgren is "spooky" a copy of the great Swedish world record holder Gunder Hägg , both to his ' look alike' and his movement/ stride when he runs. It's like the spirit of Hägg is back on track......🙏🙏🙏🧙🏼♂️
