Is there anything else that says, "I have completely abandoned all aspiration at doing anything meaningful with my existence on earth" quite as much as golf? Here are a few contenders:
Fantasy football
Getting uncomfortably into meats/pig roasts/etc
You're in a haircut club
When your friends and their wives come over now you take their coats (remember it was only about 30 months ago you puked on each other naked at about the 1k mark of a beer mile)
You give tours of your house when people come over
When you talk about an excursion or vacation or event, you phrase it as "we're doing the Hamptons"
Fantasy football
Book club but you ain't read sheeit
What else?

You obviously don't play golf.
A bit unfortunate, but a club membership is basically a requirement to post a legit handicap and gain access to the best amateur tournaments in your region. Can do as a public golfer, but light years more of a hassle.
It's unbelievably fun to compete with a buddy in a 3-4 day best ball tourney. Golf also makes for great vacations and you can fit in running with nice soft surface.
There's amazing golf in surprising places like Milan, Amsterdam, Warsaw, Capetown, Melbourne and Tokyo. Your hosts at the club get you to the fun bars, restaurants and tourist sites - quite often coming along with you. The golf community is very supportive.
Country club can be stuffy, but real golfers are amazing.

You know, come to think of it, not one thing on your list fits with your description? Fantasy football leans heavily young people. Taking coats and giving tours takes effort and politeness. Pig roasts? If you doing the hamptons, you sure as heck have not given up, sounds like you are peaking.
It seems your thesis is based on this: If you take up new sports and new hobbies and become somewhat refined in any way or do something different, you have givin up? Literally the opposite of 100% of people would think. Minus you.
