I heard he is also a professor at BYU, So running is not his only job, with 2 Incomes it is easy to support 6 kids and the appearance fees to run Marathons can be 50k -100k or More.
I don't understand the benefit of him training w/Mantz and Young. They dropped him badly in the most recent YT video, and he was just doing the workout (half of it) by himself. What incremental benefit is he gaining from running that hard effort solo? So no, I am not surprised he got injured, training wayyy over his limit.
Did you not read his post? RUNNING IS NOT HIS ONLY JOB. Which means he doesn't base his finance's around running which includes appearance fees. He's a professor as well in statistics, which last i checked most professors make more than professional runners.
Oh Douglas, what world do you live in? Jared was never going to get a $50,000-$100,000 appearance fee. Please tell me you’re joking.

Not a professor, but a part-time instructor. It's probably not a huge source of income compared to his Saucony contract and other income sources that being an Olympic marathoner opens up. He's got enough going on to live comfortably.
Which marathon is Tigist Assefa running? Maybe he’s running that marathon, so she can pace him...
Ward was 6th at the 2016 Olympics. 5 top-10s in Boston/NYC. He's run 1:01/2:09 & is out with an injury & is clearly going through it. Have some class.
It's really too bad. Ward is a smart/patient runner in the heat. He would've had a shot at making the team with a well executed race.
Don’t you ever try to give me “class lessons”!
Yes, he was 6th at the Olympics and many times top-10 in Boston/NYC, but he was also trying to be on camera last year in Berlin and taking advantage of Tigist Assefa and her pacemaker, and that’s a fact. And in the last miles, just like that, he sped up trying to show off and say: “Hey, I can't be slower than a woman!". Is that class???
Why are some people in this forum so kind and comprehensive with some runners (mostly white heterosexual catholic men runners) and very mean with other runners who don’t have the same ideas as you… ???
he has 6 kids good lord. mormons are wild bruh how in the world do want that many children in this day and age. and how tf does he even afford it...mormons are interest specimens thats for sure...no hate but i do find it kinda insane lmao. but man the byu boys stay fast and elite!
Yes, that's insane, more like animal-behaviour than human.
But hey, does he (Jared) care? After all the mother is the one who’s going to be pregnant, give birth and take care of the children...
Do you know any mormons? It's a pretty connected group that 100% takes care of their own. They get loads of support within their community when it comes to things like watching after the kids, daycare programs, etc. In the professional world they really look out for each other!

He is an adjunct, he has no phd.
Since BYU is private we don't know for sure, but a typical rate is in stem is about 5,000$ per class.
2 classes for 2 semesters, which is a decent teaching load, would be 20k a year.
Adjunct professors are making about the same, or even less, than professional runners.

You are the one who didn’t read his post. Douglas was implying that Jared was doing fine financially because of his non-running job PLUS potentially huge appearance fees. Please read his post again…. Slowly.

My understanding is that BYU doesn’t pay particularly well, as universities go. I wouldn’t expect that he makes a big income there. But some people are willing to give up some income potential to be able to teach and particularly to teach at their Alma mater.

Not quite. While not on the level of an Ivy paying a star, it's also not the level of a local junior college or regional campus. Definitely competitive with/better than state flagships, at least in my limited experience. Every professor at every college thinks they're underpaid. What that means for adjuncts, or for adjuncts in the statistics department, is hard to say, however.

He is probably getting financial help from family members.
He was 6th in the Olympics and he is American, his appearance fees are probably pretty good.
Yeah I know Ethiopia and Kenya like all Countries can only send 3 Runners to the Olympics, Still 6th is pretty good, and even if he had not placed well in The Olympics, being an Olympian greatly increases your marketability,, Maybe not 50-100k but lets say it is 25k and he runs 2-3 A Year, pretty good extra money
