A couple of dozen??? This information is relevant to everyone in the race, sponsors, clubs, coaches, agents and yes, even spectators. As has already been mentioned, if they go 5 deep or even 10 deep with 10th place getting $500, look for the finish to be a joke.If you're in 12th place and about to go out on the last loop, why not bag it and see what they'll give you to run Boston, or score a payday at a late spring early summer marathon?
To be fair, it should look something like this:
65,50,40,30,25,20,15,10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2 = $299 per gender and give the extra 100 bucks to the unlucky 4th place finisher.
It’s out. FINALLY!
Huge mistake! They’ll never learn!
What’s the mistake?
I have already looked at the article you provided. This is a huge mistake on the part of the company, and I am sure they will not learn from their mistakes.
It would be very dumb to get rid of the olympic trials. A large factor of making the US team would then be whoever got the best weather day on the flattest course. There would be no point in running at New York or Boston (unless they go by ranking and not fastest time on qualifying course). And if they went by ranking, it would still be whoever had the best weather day in a race where the fewest fast people showed up since there are bonus points for finishing position, even though not every year has the same number of fast people who show up to these races. The only fair way to do it is have everyone in the same race and you pick the top 3. The only alternative that meets in the middle, is make some other race the olympic trials proxy race, like Chicago or New York or Boston. But to do that, you would need to have guaranteed entry for the top X amount of American runners. Currently it's very political and you need to have the right agent to get you in and also political on potential appearance fees, even though it's obvious they would have to be in that race because that's how they qualify for the olympics.
Anyway, it would be so dumb to get rid of the olympic trials race.
