Disney saved a few bucks by not having the full race distance.
They need every dollar they can get these days, the way their company is going down the drain!
but you know what was actually sadder? seeing the rest of nondisney orlando businesses struggling to keep restaurants full, clubs popping, shop traffic this past holiday season. the price of freedom?
There is a new Sherriff in town! Ronny is showing them who is boss. In Florida, we elect our officials to keep tabs on what private companies are doing, and expand government to engulf what these private companies do. Its better that way, then the government can control things rather than these woke private companies. More Ronny Sherriff run government entitites please! Less woke private companies.
Moving it to Sunday to run it concurrently with the full wouldn't really be possible/advisable since about 50% of those participating in the half are signed up for one of the two challenges they have, both of which include running the marathon as well.

Key seems to be that the lightning was expected in the area around 9am so shortening it would get people off the course by 8am. They also started the race 15 minutes earlier.
Reported by folks in Orlando. Any LRC peeps know the truth?
Yes. They cut it last night to 7ish. People just waited til the rain stopped and then went out and ran again. Now they’re bragging about finishing a half. Can I add all my doubles and triples and just say I ran a marathon everyday? I ran 16 in the AM and 10 at night, but that’s still 26. Hey. What about if I do a 10 tonight and 10 in the morning after a rest? Can I call it a 20 mile run? Because that is exactly what they did.
yes. Called for rain and some wind. Not the first time. It’s actually common for this race to do that.

You guys can be mad all you want. The race was called because people walk the half in 4-5 hours and the rain was expected 4 hours into the race. Anyone finishing in a reasonable time would have been back at their hotel by then. This is not a race. People walk the half. Stop and eat. Stop and take pictures. Wait for the rides to open. Then they finish. So yeah. They could have just said finish in 4 hours which is more than reasonable but they cut the course for everyone.
I’m surprised you guys are supporting the runners doing 11k and still virtue signaling their half medal. Btw, if you remember, disney started their virtual marathon and said NO PROOF needed to be submitted. People are just paying for the medal.

That was a decent event back in the day. Prize money, at least a handful of elites every year, and some decent times. Certainly not a race, but rather a mass participation event. A Disney money grab.
There was prize money? When?
Imagine a money grab from an AMUSEMENT PARK!
A great way to end a money grab is for people to stop going, but it looks like people like this event.

Poe's Law in full effect. I want to believe this is satire or trolling...

I initially misread the title of this thread as "Disney Half Hearted". I think Disney should rename this thing as the "Disney Half-hearted Half Marathon".
