This is good for Kerr, i predicted 62:16 on his prediction contest. Downhill course, better shoes than last year and yes the likes of Jakob would run 58 on this course. But the point is narrowing the gap in the strength department and he’s working on that.

John Walker ran 63.45 after battling with stitch and losing over a minute after 7km to stop and then walk . covered 8km to 16 km between 2.50s to 2.54s ks to catch up to derek froude ( top 10 finisher at new york later that year) and won the race by 20 secs . point is some 1500 runners are strong as ox's .
Sub-58, why are you disrespecting him? Might run 56 and change.
The half-marathon may be Jakob's best event based on his testing. 5 years ago , people were saying based on his testing values, Jakob could easily break 60 in a half marathon. If Jakob ran a course that is 700 ft downhil in peak fitness, he might run 56 minutes as that type of drop is worth over 2 minutes (John Kellogg says 1.8 seconds for every 10 feet).
Think of it this way. Let's say Jakob is 45 seconds better htan Ryan Hall. That's 59 flat. Subtract a minute for the shoes and we are at 58 flat. Sub track 2 minutes for the course and we're at 56 flat. Hell I disrespected him.

https://www.athlinks.com/event/374702/results/Event/1037991/Course/2312853/ResultsSaw Eric Avila there too, but I think he was bandit-ing it, running alongside another dude I didn't recognize but Eric isn't in the results heh...
Dojo, I think you are severely underestimating the muscular impact of running 4:17 pace for almost an hour. Metabolically, I think it is doable for Jakob, but unless he started doing some serious leg callousing, no way.
As for this year, he doesn't appear in the results. Their website gives him a 6 mile split of 30:01 and a 10 mile split of 44:16. The full course time is blank.
Internet sleuths, it's time to start sleuthing as those splits aren't humanly possible.
61:51 is 4:43 per mile pace. If he ran his first 6 miles in 30:01, he'd have to run the final 7.109375 miles in 31:50 which is 4:28.65 mile pace. But it lists a 10 mile split of 44:16, which means he allegedly ran the 4 miles between 6 and 10 in 14:15 - that's 3:33.75 mile pace!!! Then for him to record a 61:51 - his final 3.109375 miles would have had to have been 17:35 - which is 5:39.3 mile pace. That's a hell of a fartlek.
As LRC's resident coaching expert, let me say it's time to cancel the 1500 final. If those splits are legit, hand him the Olympi gold right now!!!
Faster than he was at the same race last year. Probably doesn’t mean a great deal for the year ahead in the 1500m, but a solid run for him either way.
It’s the equivalent of a 13:27 5km, which if we compare to say Jakob’s PB of 12:48 is like night and day. If Jakob were to go out and race a half marathon tomorrow I am without doubt he would run a low 59 or faster
