We had the national decathlon champ on our team. He came back in a couple of individual events. We had one guy score in both hurdles and the HJ and TJ champ. 4th in the nation with 4 guys!
In 1996 Marcus Nichols (Air Force Academy) competed in the decathlon and pole vault at NCAAs. He finished somewhere around 3rd and 6th in those events.
I found the results. 9th in pole vault and 3rd in the decathlon.
I don't want to derail the thread, but there's a lot of familiar names in the results that year.
Not mentioned was that he once scored 72.5 points by himself in a conference championship meet. He could also run a very good 800m.
