Evidently the claims were neither demonstrably false enough for a summary of judgment nor past the statute of limitations, or there would never have been a "whole trial".
Whether she got $2 million or $18 million is the more interesting question - probably something in between or they wouldn't have come to an agreement.

I never saw how Mary Cain had a lawsuit. I say this as someone who did support her and still does. I think she was wronged, I just don't think that it converts to a lawsuit.
I don't represent any of the parties and have no inside knowledge of the settlement, but sometimes a defendant will settle and pay an acceptable amount just to stop discovery and 'buy' a nondisclosure agreement.
After reading Kara's book and Winning At All Costs I think Nike is evil and nothing bad enough could happen to them at cesspool.
Gee, Kara Goucher has never come clean about that fact that she was seeing Dr. Brown even before she met Salazar and it was she that told Salazar to use Dr. Brown. But I'm sure we can trust Kara is telling the truth in a book designed to make a big profit for her and get her in the #metoo speaker circuit to take in even more money.
I don't know about you, but having read her book, she's fairly clear about her relationship with Brown, its origins and all of that stuff. I know you'll say that she's lying and that all of this was simply to make a profit, but that doesn't mean that she hasn't addressed it directly. That's just patently false.

Oh, I'm SURE Kara Goucher is telling that "truth" there about nothing nefarious with her and Dr. Brown. You never heard of Lance Armstrong telling the "truth" over and over again about his relationship with Dr. Ferrari?

She mentions both in her book iirc and talks about them extensively, including Adam's relationship with him as well. You're welcome to draw conclusions on her truthfulness, but she's been fairly open in addressing it contrary to your belief.
Oh, and given that as another poster noted, her claims vis-a-vis Alberto were upheld by SafeSport even while Cain's were removed in appeal, I'd say that we at least can say that there's a good amount of evidence that she might not be the manipulative liar that everyone on this board seems to believe she is for some reason.

Lance Armstrong and Bradley Wiggins both wrote books "explaining" how "clean" they are, just like Kara Goucher. You totally do not get what "come clean" means. It's means to tell the truth, not lies like Goucher keeps telling about how she never doped with Dr. Brown.
I forget what this was all about, but I'm sure it's not some breach of contract, damaged property, or other thing lawsuits are supposed to be about. Not about alleged but unproven crimes, someone being mean, someone made you mad etc. Courts need to stop indulging all that crap.

Mary Cain's lawsuit is essentially because Salazar called her fat
My take on this is that Salazar was the sleezeball we know him to be and Cain was a really immature person. The two hated each other. One is a known control freak and the other is a privileged child that probably wasn't told no enough. I suspect Mary did a bit too much exaggerating and lacked cohesive evidence and timelines. I also suspect Salazar was a whackadoodle dude who was wildly unprepared to live with Cain and treated her like he treated many—like a dick. I don't condone Salazar's behavior since he was the adult here. Just my 2¢.

I still find it odd that none of Cain’s NOP teammates openly supported her when her allegations came public. Meanwhile, half of Bowerman passionately stood up for Shelby when her ban was announced. Even Kara reached out to Amy Yoder when she revealed how big of an a-hole he was to her.

It's not at all easy to intimidate giant corporations into paying settlements. It's easy for them to push people around; not easy for people to push them around. They aren't worried about running out of money.
