His breaking long standing WRs in the 2 mile and 2k, running the fastest mile in over 20 years, winning the WC 5k, and running two of the fastest 1500m races of all time is due to my ego. Makes sense
In 1998/1999 it was harder. El G was confronted to Haile Gebrselassie and Mickael Johnson. Reason he didn't win a 4th title in years where he beat long standing WR.
It's a good list minus Chopra. He's carried by social media and being the first Indian to get a World Championships Gold medal. Jakobs deserves to be on the list though I wouldn't rank his records in off events in the same category as Crouser or Duplantis who have redefined their events. Lyles deserves to be on the list with his triple gold, he talked the talk and delivered minus a world record(maybe 2 years in him left to chase it). Personally I would give it to Crouser or Lyles.
these records were both relatively weak and were longstanding because no one runs these events. on top of this, only one of them is an official world record
Just blasphemous for Jakob not to be included. This is like saying Neil Armstrong didn't deserve any credit for walking on the moon. Jakob's season surely ranks up there with the greatest of all time with one blemish in the 1500 at World's (not such a failure in the grand scheme of things as most would obviously kill to even be on the podium). I think Jakob suffers from what I would call the "sheer banality of excellence." His greatness is such that it can become boringly predictable and taken for granted. However, each of us should be very happy we're witnessing such incredible running.
