And again this proves just because one can run a fast half does not automatically make them a fast marathoner. Contrary to some recent thread lately.
Kibiwott Kandie ran New York the year after he ran 57:32 in 2020. He was like 5th in 2:10 in New York. You'd think 64/65 half pace for a 57 half marathoner would be a breeze. Meanwhile Kipchoge and Kiptum's half PRs are nowhere near these sub 58 guys.

How you think kiptum would have done on this day?
Given that Kiptum's Half PB was set on the same day the 58-minute barrier was broken when Kandie set the initial WR at 57:32 and with a faster course. I'd say Kiptum could've gone 58:30-59:00. We don't know enough about his 10K speed to guarantee that he could produce Sub 58. People point to his 27:50 10K at London towards the end but, that's still his Half Marathon Pace for half the distance. Plus, these are the results of his last few Half Marathons post-PB and post-Supershoe Revolution..
58:42 Valencia Half Marathon 6 DEC 2020
59:35 Lens Half Marathon 4 JUL 2021
59:02 Valencia Half Marathon 24 OCT 2021
DNF Ras Al Khaimah Half 19 FEB 2022
So, I'd say 58:30-59:00. I don't know if he'd have the strength to keep up with Sawe.
Whereas Kiptum is a very high mileage guy,Kandie is a very high frequency training guy I.e he trains 3 times a day. This is the old fashioned training method that the likes of Moses Kiptanui did in the 90s.Over the last few years Kandie has battled many injuries because of this high frequency. Going forward it will be interesting to compare and contrast these different training methods to see which is more effective I.e more frequency or higher mileage or the one that Eliud Kipchoge uses.
Kandie has the Valencia marathon in December. No excuses of the hills or anything this time. Injury seems to be his biggest issue, but he had a good spring (XC/Road to Records 10K) and now this.
People like you always cry when someone runs a fast time. Instead of appreciating their achievements you want to throw shade. I bet if one of those slow Americans popped a time close to theirs you wouldn't mention anything about super shoes or PEDs. You'd claim it's just a result of training and blah blah blah. Just accept the fact that times will get faster as runners evolve into more efficient "machines".

Blah blah blah blah blahhhhhh... If it they were American!? Thanks for making your own assumptions but I think PEDs (even though I didn’t mention them) and cheat shoes work the same no matter where you’re from. All I did was say it would be interesting to see a race w/o cheat shoes. Only reason you’re crying is you know I’m right. So add 30 seconds to your 32 minute 10k and that’s your time. Or maybe you’ve just evolved into a faster machine - lol!

Runners are not machines - and they are not evolving. They are doping.
This is the "official" 2023 Valencia Half Marathon replay from the TV broadcaster instead of that russian one or the odd one on the marathon webpage that starts like halfway in.
Very good coverage but not in english, it has spanish subtitles (if you know what you are doing you can convert them to english)
That’s an informative answer. 58 minutes is about 4:25 per mile. You don’t think that ability would be useful in a marathon? The name of the game is feeling comfortable at a fast pace.
No one said it wasn't useful. It does not necessarily translate to a fast marathon.
And again this proves just because one can run a fast half does not automatically make them a fast marathoner. Contrary to some recent thread lately.
How so? It’s the exact same skills for both distances. It takes incredible fitness to run sub-58 and it’s going to carry over to the marathon.
Zersenay Tadese, long time record holder on the half-marathon, couldn't figure it out.
While it often does translate, I think the key word here was "not automatically". There may be other "how sos", but the marathon does add an element of energy management, potential stomach problems, and heat dissipation. In addition to running skills, efficiency/economy also become more important for the marathon.
