Not true. If a race is sanctioned by USATF one should be confident that the rules of USATF will be followed. Now, if you were to show us that the guy back in 420th place got a hug and a water bottle from his wife at mile 20, who cares?

It's literally in the rule book.

OP. Thanks for alerting me about this travesty. Next year, I'll make sure to take my son over to the race and run out and tackle Will and Corey and make sure he learns about the important of rules. My son will go to school the next day, "Did you see my dad on the news? My dad is a hero. He enforced USATF rule 14.3.2."

That guy on the bike is clearly security. Wouldn’t want the leader to get shivved. It is Baltimore after all. Must take them a while to clear the 26 mile route of used syringes.

It is interesting that they cite the headphone rule in the race info...

Runners competing for awards or prize money may not use headphones of any kind, and will not be eligible for any award or prize money if such a device is worn. USA Track & Field Rule 144.3, states that the visible possession or use by athletes of video, audio, or communications devices in the competition area (which includes iPods, MP3 and other musical devices) is considered assistance and is therefore are prohibited.

But no mention of the aid station rule. So they are picking and choosing which USATF rule they are enforcing?

The course was measured and certified the week before the race due to last-minute required changes. A sinkhole opened on the path around Lake Montebello, and the Camden Yards Start location was changed against the possibility the Orioles would host a MLB playoff game.

The certification will be posted on USATF.org within a couple of weeks.

The course is a perfectly FINE course. I know because I have covered every inch of it, through several changes, for many years as the chief measurer/certifier. The people I encounter when I am out there measuring are to a person kind and respectful. It is sad that historical circumstances have allowed low-income areas in Baltimore to remain unimproved for decades. On the whole, despite its difficult altitude gains, it is a great course that allows the savvy runner to enjoy a 90% downhill finish for the last 5K. What may seem like "trash" to you seems like a great urban marathon course to most who participate.

Not funny at all. I have biked this course in several iterations over many years. I encounter residents every time, who so far, to a person, have been respetful and kind. Your thoughtless comment comes across as uninformed and *racist* .

Care to explain for what reasons you label this Baltimore Marathon as a "joke"?

There was nothing in that post that could be construed as being racist. Everyone knows that the conditions in most of Baltimore are horrible at best. Don’t be “that guy” claiming everything is racist. One does that when they can’t debate the facts and they want to shut down the debate.

I hardly said anything to shut down any debate. If dissing the Baltimore Marathon, calling it "trash" is somehow meant to be a helpful comment for anyone, please explain how you feel this may work.

It's a perfectly *fine* event. it's a well-conducted, challenging race that thousands of annual participants like or even love. You stating your opinion is fine. I don't agree with it, and I doubt many who have participated in it would.
