sub-sub-elite? Face the facts, you are a hobby jogger.
I offer nothing constructive, just here to damage your sensitive ego.
Lol, I’m 100% a hobbyjogger. I’m certainly not seeing a cent for my running. That’s why I didn’t call the other runners hobbyjoggers…we all are!
ok, that's good. I just didn't want you getting a big head.
But don't worry, I will wave to you if I see you in person. I wave to all runners, cyclists, walkers, and even cars that pass me cautiously. I find cyclists are usually the least likely to wave back.
No one cares that you’re faster than them. You probably feel a sense of entitlement because you perceive yourself as faster and “better” than the other runners on the road. This boosted ego is making you think that you are being treated differently (because you think you are superior) while in reality, you’re not being treated any differently. The runners who don’t wave at you probably don’t wave at anyone. I don’t wave at anyone. Why would I? I don’t know you. I don’t care about you.
I’d look like a lunatic waving and saying hi to everybody in a city. It’s more common in remote areas or on the trail than the roads. Don’t be offended when someone doesn’t wave back. It’s not you. It’s that they don’t care about another runner.
When I'm in my semi-rural hometown I might see one or two other runners on my loop, and I'll wave to them.
When I'm running on the country roads near my rural hometown, I wave at all the rednecks passing by in gigantic trucks as a way of saying "Thank you for not running over me today, let's try to not do it again tomorrow!" So far, so good.
I know female amateur runners who work at night and train during the day who are faster than you
You know multiple female sub-2:29 marathoners who all work the night shift? That's pretty cool. I guess if they're all free during the day they can meet up and train together. Must be quite a neighborhood.
This is completely false. I am slow, I could barely run a sub 3 but people slower than me get highly butt hurt over me referring to myself as slow. People most definitely care, I find this particularly true of women. Most women do not like self put downs and self deprecation even when humorous, it makes them feel insecure about themselves. Anyway, something I have noticed to be absolutely true. My 2 cents.

Like OP, you are delusional. You’re not slow if you can run sub 3. You call yourself slow in a feeble attempt to self depreciate and to force people, like me right now, to tell you that you are not slow. I’m stroking your ego and you like it, don’t you?
No. I am not delusional, I am a person who actually follows this sport and not just out running for recreation and understand that while I am a good bit faster than the average person out running, I am not winning races ie I am slow. Sorry for the people who get offended by facts, thats on them. For me unlike OP I don't give 2 sh!ts if I am 'unwelcome'.
What?!? If jogging is my hobby is a dude and he could barely break 3hrs in a marathon, that is most definitely slow. No offense to him or anyone else, it just us what it is.
I moved to a small town for work 2 years ago and find that anytime I'm out running or walking, every other person I see says hello, good morning or something of the sort. I suspect it's a small town thing as I left a place of about 2 million and would rarely have any experiences like this.

This is the crux of it. People are too butthurt and sensitive. I try to be encouraging with people just running - I think it's great. But then they don't even walk to talk ever again if they realize you're faster than them. And then they start proving their qualifications like I'm good in this category or that they could be faster but they just don't care.
Sub-sub-elite guy (2:29 marathon, 1:11 half) — been training in a major U.S. metro area for about a year now, and 10+ years total beyond that. I go out of my way to wave or say hello to every single runner/jogger I pass, but mayyyybe two or three in every 60+ that I see on a normal run do anything but outright ignore me. When people *do* wave back, it’s almost always faster, or at least more serious-looking, guys and girls.
I’ve also had a casual runner comment on one of my Strava posts saying that calling my 7:00 pace run “easy” offends them because “that’s faster than [their] sprint speed.”
Sounds ridiculous, but between things like this and that new debate over the Tracksmith BQ-exclusive singlets, does anyone else feel sorta out of place as a faster runner?

It's 'elite' for all intensive purposes. Probably can win all turkey trots and all local races. And faster than 99.99% people jogging out there.
I’m a hobbyjogger who other runners probably assume is fast (because I’m not fat and wear tank tops and short shorts). I always wave at everyone I pass (runners, walkers, and bicyclists), and I’ve found that most people wave back or say hi. The walkers always do (especially the senior citizens), and most runners do (except sometimes the really overweight runners don’t), and the bicyclists never reciprocate my greetings (which isn’t surprising tbh).
The nod is easier. Just keep going and slide "sup" as you go by. So what if they don't respond.
And, I was a little faster than your posted times, and yes, I learned early on to not talk about my times to other local runners. Most have no concept and say stupid things like "There is no way you ran 15:20 for a (local) 5k, that's like a world record.." So, just stay silent, blend in, enjoy yhe community. there is no reason to stick out. People aren't dumb. They will eventually know you are "that guy" who runs fast and things will eventually change. Just lay low, run your race and be you.

Not in my neighbourhood, my country and yes I know two nurses who are faster than that or around that. They’re some of the most humble people I have talked to.
