Incredible run also by true freshman Paityn Noe for 3rd. She is one to watch.
Thorvaldson much better result than Chile Pepper. BYU solid with a bunch at 20:00 but tough to tell how good that is. Elmore good for OR but the rest of the team kinda so-so. Did not see Alder looking this good tho.

Elmore also has 4:08 speed. This was a great run for her, she finished strong. I expected Appleton to contend more for the win.
Noe will compete at SECs. Very interested to see how she fares against the Florida, Alabama runners.

If Valby and AL ladies make that a fast race the Noe should be careful else end up 55+ seconds back like Bunnage did yesterday.
BYU's Carmen Alder on the front through 3K. If she is legit they will be very good.
At 5K 6 second lead.
I'm not one to fawn over Coach Taylor, but she does indeed coach. Alder was brought along slowly this year and now pops. Byu ran their 5, 6, and 7 in an early pack today and then Chamberlain charged late all the way to 10th.
They now have 5 - Alder, Hutchins, Halladay, Frentheway and Chamberlain. Even with some upside still. Could well be a podium team.

True. I was impressed that Bunnage went for it. On paper she is one of the fastest women in the NCAA over 5k. But, she was in a bit over her head this time.
It's pretty clear that SECs will be very fast, just like last year. I couldn't find times for the 6k course. The 5k course record was set by Kosgei this season. 15:52.

I still think podium is tough - if FL gets Mazza-Downie at top form. But take her out, and with CO, UNC, ND woes BYU could get 4th but I think well back of 3rd pending what team OSU turns out to really have. I think a lot of NAU, FL, OSU, NC St etc runners coculd be ahead of that BYU pack.

Crazy things happen at XC nationals every single year. Teams that are "locks" to be top 5 choke every year. BYU women are a dangerous team. If they have a great day they could easily be top 3 or 4. There's always carnage.
Tough to take much from this meet since there weren't a ton of top teams. BYU proved it's for sure a top 10 team, maybe even top 5. Virginia showed it isn't a top 10 team. Arkansas and Oregon basically showed they're top 25, but nowhere near top 10.
You nailed it. I'm mostly going off the inconsistent but talented Hutchins. If that group pops with Hutchins in the same meet, they are dangerous. Similarly if Dudek is running at 5-6 for Stanford and pops, they are also much better.
Osu always looked good. Eager to see them at big12.
Noe like Stevens is a nice surprise!
Lastly, I'm now officially on the cal poly bandwagon. They have Van Hoy plus Nike plus big investment in the 3 polys from the state. If van hoy decides this is his home, they will be very good in 2 to 3 years

agree, and yes BYU is getting better than I thought a month ago - but I still think the top 4 teams (NAU/NC ST/OSU/FL) if hitting on all cylinders are well ahead. How they run in 5 weeks, I guess we will find out.

Yeah a lot can hwppen and it will be competitive. Lacctic has Nau #1, OK state #2, NCst #3 , Fl #4, Stanford #5 if Tyynismaa, Bush, Rauber, Hertenstien, Starliper are not running.
Curious about the OK state team because they don't seem to race competitive meets in the regular season so still kind of unknown. Taylor Roe also has not raced yet.

There definitely would have been more there if it didn't coincide with Nuttycombe and the fact that UVa hosted an invitational earlier in the season. Many opted to do their course surveillance at the earlier meet.

Really impressive win by the Arkansas men coming in with 35.
Their top 4 ran faster than Drew Bosley’s winning time at the same course a few weeks back. Is Arkansas joining the conversation as national title contenders? OSU, NAU, Arkansas and BYU. Take your pick.
