His form doesn't look bad at all. And most interesting is the hurdling versatility. Jakob took the nearby barrier with his right lead every lap. I assumed that's all he had. It was high kneed and not particularly aggressive. But on the final lap once it turned to more of a sprint and head to head competition he switched to his left lead and fired over the barrier at lower trajectory and clearance.
tbh it didn't sound sincere to me. id love to see him give a good run at it, but the pause before he answered made it feel like he said it for the cameras more than anything. he wouldn't hesitate like that for the 1500/mile/3k/5k
the only reason im not sure about it is because he's already run the steeple at worlds, so he's got at least some background in it. plus 3k is probably his best distance atm.
It was a way to make the team. There is about 0% chance he does it. On the other hand Aouita did run that one race basically at his prime. Maybe JI gets bored after the Olympics, spends 2 weeks hurdling and see what he can do..
He will run it like a classic Kenyan steepler, terrible hurdle form but great speed makes up for it
Typical ignorant LRC crap.
I expected someone would come at me for my ignorance, but for it to be Malmo is an honor. I admit im generalizing Kenyan steeplers and exaggerating the inefficiencies of their form

This video is great. First, I didn’t know he steepled when younger. Second, he’s beckoning to the crowd to celebrate while he runs down the home stretch just like he did in the semi-finals of the 1500 this year. too funny.
Believe his first senior World Champs was in the steeple. He ran in the 8:20s when he was 17/18. He could probably go close 8:0x with a few weeks of steeple training right now after a few weeks of hurdle training. Steeple does open up some unnecessary injury risk for somebody with so much potential elsewhere.

I think he could go sub 8 for sure in that timeframe. IMO steeple is far more reliant on the wheels someone has than their hurdle form. 7:23 3k? (obviously he can break the WR right now) - easy sub 8.

Correct. Ran 8:26.81 as a 17-year-old.
Here are all of Ingebrigtsen's outdoor races over every distance he's contested:
Eh, he absolutely doesn’t care about steeple. He couldn’t really say No at that point without looking contemptuous of steeple. We all know it’s kinda silly.
