Maybe the reporter missed the memo, but people don't talk bad about Flo-Jo.
Maybe this reporter missed the memo that people call out BS when they see/smell it. Get out of the 20th century guy. FloJo was undoubtedly a cheater, move along.
Well said. Part of being a journalist is saying what you think is true as suggested by the evidence you've been able to dig up. You could be wrong, you could be right, but it's just wild to say anything to the effect of "hey journo, NOBODY calls out this specific person, stop doing that!" Journalism is over if this attitude became common.
You know why people don't talk bad about her? Everybody knows what the situation was but really it's futile discussing it - especially with someone not even around anymore. It just comes across as tasteless to talk in public about too much and really doesn't serve much purpose.
Finally someone who understands the situational influence. It's a low class topic in settings like that. You're never going to get an athlete to address it the way you want them to address it, so the entire line of questioning is pointless.
The administrators around here seem to be mesmerized by topics on the message board, to the point they totally lose sight of how they play elsewhere. It's like the right wing nutcases who want every question during presidential debates to focus solely on the latest right wing nutcase drivel.
And it's hardly confined to Florence Griffith Joyner. That was the biggest whiff by the author. None of the doping or DSD records of yesteryear are mainstream conversation or hold any opportunity for a thoughtful response. It's going to be a deflection every time. Bragging about asking the question is ridiculous. Those questions invite scorn and distrust.
The Citius Mag crew understands as much. They get the interviews and the more drawn out interesting responses due to the approach they take. And once those interviews reach comfort zone level, now there's opportunity for something more probing. They seldom take that route but the set up is there.
You guys need something else to worry about. Outside of this board and it's visitors no one cares. I get the impression even some vistors do not care. This topic has been beaten to death. Time to move on.

How's life in one of the last enclaves where the stupid/sucidial/treaonous/evil policies of the Left haven't brought everything to ruin? Just a matter of time before the politics of someone who talks like you bites them, their family, and/or their entire community in the rear.

She is still in the record books. Everyone is still constantly reminded of her and compared to her. As long as that is there, it is not going away. It can't. You can't forget something you are forced to remember so often. If you think it can just go away, you need to move on from that thought.
Flo Jo was a blatantly obvious doper. Was not aware no one was allowed to question her accomplishments. Of course Flo Jo was doping to the gills, then anyone who beats her WR is doping to the gills also. I think that is the point, the code of omerta.
Is it likely? Yes. Is it possible she had an insane race that has yet to be touched by 21st Century athletes with access to better training/tech? Less likely, but still yes. Since she is now dead and cannot defend herself, it's seriously punching down at someone who died tragically young and was an inspiration to many during her lifetime.
My stance is to that every record set and still held since that era to be suspect and just move along and focus on the here and now.
They are just as much doped in "the here and now". There is no "moving on" from that.

The "situational influence" is that no one in the sport wants to acknowledge how dirty it is. Especially the athletes. This didn't begin or end with Flojo. To acknowledge that would blow away public confidence or interest in the sport.
