71.4% of Oberlin college is "LGBTQ." How is that possible?

I’m fine with you including those. It actually reinforces the idea that diversity is not an essential part of the college experience. As such, racist affirmative action admission policies are not justifiable.

When I ran Boston, the women at Wellesley had a sign that said "Finally some men around here." Was honestly surprised they, at least some of them, were openly straight.

I’m not sure you know what “100%” means.

It says the within campus sample sizes were small. That is very important - it means the results for a specific college have a lot of noise/error. Also, how do we know if the sample was random?
Oberlin does have a great music program, and very strong academically. My oldest child attended and has done very well with jobs and grad school, very much related to what they studied at Oberlin.

All this LBGTQIA stuff is equivalent to parachute pants and breakdancing in the 80s. It was cool, we all had a pair, and did our thing on the cardboard.

You're sort of contradicting yourself. On one hand you seem to be stating that diversity is not an essential part of the college experience and on the other hand, as you wrote in your post above, "if diversity of ideas is a strength, then these institutions fail in that regard,' which to me, at least, seems that you would advocate for diversity.

Which is it? Is "fail(ure)," as you put it, OK with you?

There are A TON (rojo style caps) of "straight" guys on grindr always reaching out for action. It's kinda sad how many there are that basically live a lie, keeping stuff on the dl because of wives and kids.

Your chess metaphor is sort of weak in that something similar could be applied to just about anyone and everyone depending on the situation.

hint 1 it's junk is every tweet they have recently made looks pretty political and like it's intended to make one side happy.

hint 1a is it points you to pro-conservative free speech rankings which didn't seem to have the data. misleading clickbait.

hint 2 is suggesting ~10% of liberty and hillsdale are queer. this struck me as like most smooth dictators know better than to take 100% of the vote when they fake an election. but i can't imagine much of anyone going there.

hint 3 as someone notes in the low % responses, the low % shouldn't be at roughly the accepted total population estimate. ie people tend to bat around 10% as the societal figure. so the low end should be ummm lower than that. but one assumes the manufacturer didn't want the schools looking bigoted. so they are given average numbers. but then the average isn't the average.

hint 4 the high end boggles the mind. no. bull. i buy at the most liberal schools that make LGBTQ more comfortable the numbers out/exploring might be higher than average, but not 3/4 of campus. bull. it appears to be setting up their free speech complaint, that, oh, it's a bunch of zombie followers the other way. bull. i went to a fairly liberal university and i knew when i thought politics had gone too far, it even had a say in my major choice among two favorites, one of whom was more reasonable. it's also based on a false premise that desantis is trying to neutralize instead of indoctrinate, i went to a texas high school and i don't think my civics or economics classes were anywhere near neutral, and it sure wasn't left wing.

Same school that recently removed their lacrosse coach for being critical of Lia Thomas's NCAA victory.

These stats are definitely off. But I will point out that as a gay person, I always feel like the minority. So a straight person attending this school (under these alleged stats) would feel what we do most of the time.

I went to state school. It was far more diverse. I enjoyed it, but it was not essential. That being said, I don’t come on LRC because I want to hear others echo my own thoughts. I come on to troll individuals such as yourself and try to get you to question your own thoughts.

As a fairly recent graduate, 71 percent seems a little high, but probably close to half the people I interacted with identified as LGBTQ in one way or another. The men's XC and track teams were mostly straight guys, but the majority of the women's team was queer. Seemed to be a similar pattern on other teams, and the rest of campus was generally more out there in terms of politics and personal expression than the athletes, so it's not all that surprising.

I would also note that a significant number of students reject traditional gender concepts altogether. So for example a female-presenting person who has only dated men might identify as non-binary and consider themself not straight for that reason.

70% seems insanely high though. I graduated high school under 5 years ago and probably 7% (somewhere between 5 and 10) of my class identified as such.
Even if 20% of gen z identifies as such, that’s 350% overrepresented.

Navigating a minefield like that with tripwires, deadfall traps and barbed wire only to make it out unscathed is admirable. You'll probably do well in whatever you decide to do.
