It was pretty ugly ...44-667-063-029-0A 0-0 tie in 1906 (I played in a 0-0 game a HS alumni game)Went like that until 1912 when Colorado State FINALLY winning one of these, 21-0. From 1909 to 1911 Colorado 132 Colorado State 0.They have played 85 times, the Buffalos winning 62.Obviously Deion and his gang are riding high right now life is good and will be good for another couple weeks with Colorado State barely a speed bump. The Buffalos will arrive in Oregon 3-0. Then after the Ducks..........Caleb Williams and the mighty Trojans of USC.Anyone expect to see a 5-0 Colorado team? First time I became away of Cliff Branch was a punt return to score on a highlights show on TV. Same here, although I admittedly didn’t post ahead of time that I had them on both the moneyline and ATS versus TCU, and I cashed out the moneyline bet at halftime.

However, I did post that I had them over Nebraska at -2.5. Nobody else here, including Deno, seems to be making picks ATS. It’s easy to pick the winner.

So, yes, I would take CU on the moneyline this week, but I’m not sure ATS, so I’m staying away from it. I would lean CU -23.5 in a Gameday, night time game against another “rival” who lacks defense. For the record, I do think CU covers that. But, CSU has had two weeks to rest and prepare, and, even if they are outathleted (they are), funny stuff can and does happen. So, I’m staying away.

Bradlee Van Pelt is my favorite college football player of all time. ESPN and ESPN2 used to have a lot of Mountain West games on back in the day and CSU got a ton of airtime. Watching Van Pelt run over defenses and lower his shoulder and talk trash made him one of the most exciting players to watch. He had an excellent arm too and could wreck opposition in a number of ways. He only cared about winning and laying a beating on other teams. I was really bummed when he finally graduated and I feel CSU football has not been respected since.

He and Cecil the Diesel were great. Both those guys were almost impossible to tackle.

No mention of the 1990 and 1991 Orange Bowls when CU played Notre Dame? Colorado ranked #1 in 1990 and lost to ND 21-6.

The next year was a rematch and ND featured Rocket Ismail and Ricky Watters. Ismail returned a punt 92 yards for an apparent TD with 43 seconds left, which looked like the winning score. But the play was called back on a controversial clipping call and Colorado held on to win 10-9.

CU's top running back on those teams, Eric Bieniemy, was the Chiefs OC during the Mahomes era - now with the Commanders.

True. Also a season where CU started off 1-1-1, and the clipping was unfortunate because it was away from the play. ND should’ve won.

However, I think the co-championship was BS, because CO had a much tougher schedule that year. Ga Tech went undefeated in a pansy conference. The only noteworthy opponent they beat was, in fact, Nebraska in a bowl game, but that was after a deflated NU had already lost their “bowl” game to CU, at home I believe, not on a neutral field.

Van Pelt played briefly for the Broncos, he got some snaps during a couple of preseason games and I think even scored at least one TD. It’s a shame they couldn’t make it work he had a lot of local support.

Agree the co-championship was BS. It was even more of a travesty when BYU went undefeated in a very weak WAC and none of the top teams wanted to play them in the lowly Holiday Bowl.

First some background, he's son of Michigan State and NFL (Giants) HOFer Brad Van Pelt. Went to MSU for a year or so and they wanted to convert him to LB or safety, more like his dad but he wanted to play QB. So he transferred to CSU. He was on the bench for about half of his first (or maybe even second season there), they also wanted him to play other positions because he was such a good athlete. He still wanted to play QB. He got his chance and bowled over the opposition and willed the team to some big victories (including CU at least once) along the way. The pros also wanted him to try other positions but he refused. He was drafted about last or signed as a free agent with the Broncos and was e was on the practice squad for a year and, as said before, got some snaps in the preseason and maybe a couple times in the regular season. But nothing beyond that. Seems like he could have made a go of it in Canadian football.

Like 20 years ago I was at the CSU library scanning Letsrun, and Bradlee walked up and sat at the terminal right next to me, and gave me a look like, WTF site are you perusing!? True story.

Unfortunately I don’t think this rivalry has much of a future, and I say that as a CSU guy. If we are honest with ourselves, CU has dominated this matchup over the years, with the exception of some pretty special CSU teams against some pretty middling CU teams. As long as Sanders stays at CU he can recruit the caliber of players CSU might only see once a decade. This Saturday is likely to be a rout by CU and after 2024 it’s hard to see them wanting to renew the game unless CSU starts playing a lot better.

Also true, but that wasn’t CU’s fault, because if the refs had the down right, CU would’ve run a play on fourth down and probably scored anyway from the one yard line. People tend to forget that.

Either way, it was a remarkable and lucky season.

Lol. My issue with Deno is he doesn’t pick against the spread. It’s a lot easier to pick the winner. CU wins on Saturday but I’m not sure they cover. I think they do but I won’t bet it.
