Kipchoge is the GOAT, but his WR will only last 5 years, and already almost got erased by a washed up undertrained Bekele.
Maybe history will remember Kipchoge as just the best during a weak period for the thon, as one of the first greats to figure out the proper transition from track speed to marathon speed, but just another great rather than a GOAT.
But how do you know Bekele wasn't doping? He is as suspect as Kiptum coming out of constant DNF and running within 2 seconds of a world record.
EPO confidence is real. Makes you feel invincible we've heard that first hand from known users.
Baseless doping accusations aside, Kiptum’s confidence is striking--crystallized in a way similar to J. Ingebrigtsen. Scant mention of or concern with competitors and winning seems to be understood implicitly.
Of course he thinks he's going to win. The guy ran 2:01 twice !
Prior to London, Kiptum is quoted at the press conference as saying “I'm not ready to go for a world record now.” He goes on to run within 16 seconds of it. Is it even debatable as to the all time status of what he did the 2nd half of that race?! Zero percent chance the WR lasts for 5 years.
Yes it seems like his MO is to downplay things. I would not be fooled, but here at least he did give a little detail in saying he started his prep a little later than idea.
