I am curious why you think it's such a bad thing for wheelchair athletes to win significant prize money?
They increased the para prize money by more than the total increase. So they actually took away prize money from the rest of the race.

I agree that it is not fair, but if they do that, then they find money for it. It's sad that they don't always find it for athletes.

The total wheelchair prize for 2024 will be $313,500 for men and women (previously $125,000). So that's an addition of $188,500. The actual prize money for able bodied elites and masters runners appears to be the same.
So if the total prize money was $879,000 last year like someone claims, it has to be at least $1,067,500 this year right? And I think some of the other para divisions have gone up so it's probably north of $1.1 million?

What the heck are you whining about? Nobody cares about either the wheelchairers or the marathon runners but between the two, people do care more about the runners and that is reflected in the prize money. All sports are ultimately silly entertainment anyway.
It’s really not much fun watching marathoners run even for runners. I’d actually be totally fine if there was some lag and they only switched to the marathoners when something interesting happens.

Makes sense, the tv coverage follows the wheelchairs more than the running race.
TV coverage is horrible for the actual Marathon runners. Wheelchair racers are incredible athletes but should be at a cycling venue not a running venue. Another point is that the Wheelchair elite athletes can race back to back weekends whereas an elite Marathon runner cannot.... unless you are Yuki Kawauchi
Respectfully, push rim racers (no mechanical gearing) do belong on the tracks and roads.
Unfortunately the cycling community has not properly embraced handcycles (mechanical gearing).
WMM should have never allowed handcycles into marathon fields.
I’ve always respected wheelchair athletes at the marathon, but it’s not the same sport. Sure, they’re covering the same distance, but the training, recovery and competitive fields are completely different.
Pretending that wheelchair athletes are engaging in the same discipline as running 26.2 miles may be lucrative for them, but it’s honestly a patronizing disservice to what should be it’s own event.
