He is not doping but there might be some tainted lutefisk out there. Some of the canneries buy ungelded wild cod from unscrupulous fishermen. He should make sure only to eat the farmed stuff.
He focused on the longer distance because he didnt think he could beat the Ingebrigtsens at 1500m - makes sense since there were 3 family guys who would all win Euro 1500 titles, including a future OG champ, and a world medalist. It was Gjert who eventually convinced him to move down.
No, more emphatically he admits he had previously never displayed the talent of a mid-distance runner.
The story is compelling and bewildering, if not suspicious. It stoked the fires of all the also-rans looking for a training secret that will take them to the next level.
What was his closing 800m? Was it really that fast? Or instead, did he stave off going lactic more than the others?
That is the ‘double threshold’ theory; pushing out the LT to faster paces. Is it possible there is a PED that staves off going lactic?
It was likely a 1:49 last 800 with 56/52pt splits. You can say lactic all you want, but running a 52 last 400 in a 3:29 race is a skill few have ever achieved.

52 is still within his wheelhouse. He openly admits he was rather surprised when he first broke 3:30. He very well may have been astonished how well the system finally worked.
He actually said was going to call it quits last year, after plateauing. But his coach said “give it two more years.” That last point I found rather curious.
After training under the system since his teens, why would his coach be so sure it just needs a couple more years to prove out? For example, was there some lactate data, projected out in time (in conjunction with more training volume) that showed he would eventually be a contender?

Yeah to your point his wheelhouse is astonishing…much like Shelby kicking sub-30 in 3:57-58 races at the time was.
There's a lot going on at these worlds beyond the broadcast, to my eye. Sure, the eye-popping improvements and physiques are one thing, but how about how about Lyles getting rammed and Mu nearly getting decked by Sekgodiso? Two of the heaviest favorites. And Jakob says we is sick. With sports betting as big as it is now, there's a lot more money to be made on affecting the outcome of races. Luckily, both Lyles and Mu made it through safely.

Some posters seem to insinuate, post Jakob, the training system is now working for Nordas because he is now (fairly recently) getting his coach’s full attention. But Nordas has said (in podcasts) that he has been doing the training for several years (since mid-to-late teens), and he learned quickly he could not train threshold with Jakob back when they both were in the same training session.
^this is my understanding, but happy to hear any further illumination on the matter.

Why couldn't he train the threshold with Jakob?
Because Jakob was on a much more advanced level. His paces would have over-trained Nordas. One of the attributes of the system is that it can lead to over-training, without careful modulation.
"As soon as Gjert starts coaching Nordas he goes from someone we'd never heard of to one of the fastest none Africans in history and the World Championship bronze medalist ... it stinks".
First. Gjert started training Narve long ago. But you do not know even that, do you? Second. And since you have not heard of him, so what? And then you conclude. Bravo. Gjert was his coach when Nordås participated in the Tokyo Olympics and in Eugene. Both times 5000.
Narve Gilje Nordås has been part of the training group called Team Ingebrigtsen, together with Jakob, Filip, Henrik and Per Svela. He came to my attention when he ran 3000, the last 1000 at European Indoors at 2:22.56. He ended up as number five. Spring 2021.
When he ran his 3:36 last year in May he was still concentrating his efforts on 5000. That was in a race when he used his normal tactics; coming from behind. He ran 1500 twice in 2022. Won both times. In 2022 he thought he was capable of running 3:33-34. And at that time Gjert became his peronal trainer; his and Per Svelas.
Do you know what stinks? Uniformed and baseless accusations.

Don't need to overcomplicate things - give it two more years means "you still might have a shot at making Paris so might as well hang round to see if you can make that team. Then you can say for the rest of your life that you're an Olympian."
It is very common for athletes to stick around and try "one more Olympics."
It isn't crazy that a guy who is 3:36 and 13:15 at 23 could be good enough to be an Olympian at 25.
Agreed with other posters, is hard to not by skeptical of the progression, but Thoughtsleader mate own it - you can't say "this guy's progression and story is a 1 for 1 match to a banned doper" and then back pedal.

He wasn’t gonna quit cuz he wasn’t good enough to be an Olympian it was because he was stagnating and not making much money/progress.

What is incorrect about what anyone has said? Running 3:33-34 means you are at around the level he was at 5,000. You’re acting like he has only improved at 1500 when the change is at 5,000 as well, clear as day. Nobody will be surprised when he runs 12:50 next year, let’s be real. As JWH insinuated correctly and you backed up, Gjert took much more of an interest in him after coaching him more remotely and there is a huge improvement. That is a lot to be explained just by more face-time.

Never back pedaled and I’ll own I have painted that he fits the exact blueprint of a convicted doper. I hope not, he is a good interview and fun to watch. But it doesn’t pass the smell test.

Oh my bad, I guess that’s when he started doping then 😇
