Top 8 is good work. Not everyone can be a medal contender but it's not nothing to be top 8 in the world. He can possibly get better though I personally think 6th to 8th in global champs is his ceiling. Either way, it's a bit much to crap on a guy who just ran a PB to finish 7th in the world
It's only checks and balances: in the LRC universe, if you overhype someone, a home-going devastation thread will eventually be created.
He always runs a chicken sh!t race. He never even attempts to get himself into medal position. He's good enough to get to the final, but he looks scared as hell to contend.
yeah I think this is a little aggressive, but in his LR interview after his semi he was talking about how in Tokyo he just picked guys off at the end and went out slowly, and this year he really wanted to put himself in the mix, but from my perspective he ran the exact same race he ran in Tokyo.

He's kinda got it coming. He and his legion of fanboys took to twitter to crap on a guy that actually won a gold medal. Tough one to live down.
All around a great week for Cole. Looked really sharp through the rounds and thought he ran really well today. We've been spoiled by Yared, but 3:30.70 is legit. Honestly think he's in high 3:28.xx shape right now.
He still seems to get boxed in almost every big race. You could see him dipping in and out of traffic during the last lap. Figure that part out and I don't think there is any reason to believe he can't compete for a medal next year.
His 26.9 last 200 indicates tactical issues, which is pretty obvious when you watch the race. He let himself get boxed in at the back the whole race, probably counting on things opening up, which didn't happen until the last 100. If he commits to a bigger move to the front from the outside earlier in the race, he finishes much higher.
After the year he's had, and how much time he had off, this is a pretty amazing result. Think of how many guys get injured and are never the same.

Hocker turned 22 the first week of June this year. Easy to forget that he was so young at the Olympics. And if can stay healthy for the next year, I think him and Yared are gonna battle. (Yared turn 24 the first week of June as well)

Man, if people continued to sh1t on me for years for stupid things I said when I was 19 my life would be pretty miserable.

Same age that Herb Elliot retired, having won every 1500 he ever ran, and every major event available. Plus WRs.
For me the real cause for celebration here is that he ran 3:30.7 in the WC Final and finished ahead of a guy named Cheruiyot. If you told me that earlier this year, I would have said BS. Great year for him and hopefully he rides it into Paris
Excellent run (in 3:30) for 7th during a comeback year at the age of 22. It is better than I expected following two taxing preliminary rounds. If Hocker had pushed harder in the beginning of the final, he probably would have died on the last lap. But by the time the Olympics roll around next year he should in condition to be more aggressive in his positioning in the final.

Yup. Not only that but Hocker >>> cheeryout #1, Cheriyoit #2, Katir, and Habz

To be fair New Gens fans continue to chirp at Centro any chance they get. Hocker never really trashed talked in his defense, he’s always been nice and humble.
But back in 2021 Cooper, Crawford, and that Carter Christman dude talked a lot of trash about Centro, a lot of that generally saying “Hey Cole’s better than you” to Centro.
Obviously, this is very disrespectful to an Olympic gold medalist and New Gen fans have continued the “Cole is better than Centro” jokes to this day. It got so bad on these boards, Nick Willis actually commented in defense of Centro on a thread that said Cole’s 6th place finish in Tokyo was better than Centro’s win in Rio.
So it’s not really Cole’s fault, but the fact that he has an entire fan base of people claiming that Cole’s better than an Olympic Gold medalist means that Cole will, unfortunately, be held to really high standards. Nevermind all the people in 2021 during the height of Hockermania who said he’d beat Jakob.
Cole is like a much MUCH more consistent Manzano, but let's not forget Leo ran 3:30 and snagged a very legit medal in the right race. Everyone loves to poo poo on Centro's gold, but it was the right race setup for his strengths. Leo had a similar great setup and a Centro/Kerr-like perfect-race-moment. I could see Hocker putting it all together one of these days and making it happen. Very stoked to see him back on track and improving.

Fair enough, I'm not on Insta so I only have a vague idea what New Gen is from listening to Coffee Club. If they are spouting crap at a multiple global medallist and Olympic champ, maybe Hocker should give them some distance
Cole Hocker has no muscle tone. He looks like a casual much like Kerr did in college before he dropped 30 pounds and got lean. If Cole optimizes his nutrition and does some weight training he can probably run 3:26-7
Watching the race back this morning, one thing Hocker should be disappointed with is that he ran exactly the same as he did in Tokyo. He was a total non-factor throughout the race and over the final lap. He was at the back throughout the race, same old tactics. He never made a move like Laros or even Habz who at least tried to get amongst things over the last 400. Nuguse and Kipsang stayed 4th/5th throughout but had nothing for the last 200, Garcia hung at the back and had a good last 100 as did Nordas to gain his medal. But Hocker was in the same category as Gourley, Nader, and Cheruiyot - they were just, sort of, there. Part of the race but not affecting it. That's his big challenge going into Paris next year.
