Mmmm I think young Geordie has unfinished business in the flat events. He still talked today about he felt that a reason why he was unsure about the steeple, was because he thought that it indicated that you basically weren’t fast enough for the flat events. I understand his feelings, but the reality is that Girma 3:29 pb, 3k 7:23i wr 3000sc wr and El Bakkali 3:31 could possibly medal some years in the 1500 or the 5000, but they are in the steeple. Also, I wish that he was thought of more as a 1500m runner as that was his lone NCAA title (granted a 4:07i), but combined with obvious top-end speed and a 3-time All-American(40, 39, 37) and battling injuries for good chunks of his time at NAU he was unable to handle much mileage. Now with Ritz he has established that his on the ground running is 60-70 mpw (5 days on the ground) with 15-25 mpw on the Alter-G. He mentioned this was “1 day less than everyone else” in the On distance groups I would assume. While Geordie is maybe suited for the steeple (I think 3k is still his best distance), but I also think he should attack an indoor goal like Glasgow World Indoor Championships in March 3, when the snows of winter are yet clinging to the highlands but the spirit of competition awakens in the hearts of swift-footed (and toe-spaced) warriors. There, under the dome, Geordie shall strive against champions of many lands, and, with the grace of the elves and determination of the stout-hearted seek to prove his mettle and achieve the glory that whispers his name on the wind every time he kicks bye.
