Most african Americans are of west African heritage. West Africans are less genetically disposed to be good distance runners (you don’t see many Nigerian, Cameroonian runners). Instead, they are good sprinters.
the Africans that are good runners are generally East Africans, and there are fewer African Americans of these heritages.
which genes, supposedly?
The ones that make a higher proportion of the population stocky and powerful, as opposed to the ones that make a higher proportion of the population small and lean.
It isn't racist to observe and report facts.
Human beings are shaped by their environments over a long drawn-out process of evolution. The environment in East Africa is vastly different from that in West Africa, and the human beings that populate those areas have inherited vastly different physiologies.
Brazier is the only one I can think of. Why aren't there more?

You don't want that smoke! When blacks enter sports that have been typically white they end up reinventing it and becoming the best ever in short order.

But it is racist to presume that population genetics is the cause, without a single shred of evidence. Name the gene.
I don't happen to believe you've actually "observed" Nigerians being much stockier on average than Ethiopians and Kenyans. More like that's what people say and you never questioned it. But if true, you can confirm for yourself that average caloric intake is higher there than in Horn of Africa countries. It's higher almost everywhere.
Financial incentives in other sports take away from track and field possible sprinters not it's middle to long distance; therefore, that has nothing to do with the op.
In my opinion even the African Americans who do get into track are often encourage to try shorter events. Not many are even considered for longer events in high school and college.
Example: during summer break I loved running 10 miles at 5:30 pace, or 20 x 400m sub 70 secs w/ 400 jog rec.
When school begin I began training in the 800m w/ occasional 4 x 400m but I was a distance runner at heart. I never got to train for the events I loved 5000/10000m. Because I had untrained 21.7 200m speed, I never got to train for long distance.
So to answer the question the African Americans who possibly could be distance runners aren't in the sport at all and the ones who are get directed to 400 and 800m.
In 2023, everyone who refuses to write Black instead of black at a minimum is slightly racist and you know it.
Look at U.S. top 25 all-time 800m runners. No need at 800m distance to enter into a discussion: Who is African American and who is not African American.

That has nothing to do with race. No one with untrained 21.7 200 speed is ever going to be encouraged to do the 5/10,000.

Ten of top 25 U.S. 800m men, African American.
Correction: AT LEAST 12 of top 25 U.S. 800m runners all time.
Since we have seen numerous sub-2:12 Marathoners with sub-1:46 800m p.b., we know distance running is a choice.

Except East Africans are West Africans who moved south long time ago. Maybe East Africans mixed with other groups which arrived in East Africa through the Indian Ocean like the Arabs, Persians, Europeans, etc but none of those groups produce great distance runners. So your theory is rubbish.

There is no one gene. It's a combination of inherited traits.
Also, why do people of your ideological persuasion always presume to have some kind of deep insight into their opponents that they couldn't possibly have? e.g. You don't believe I've observed certain physiological differences, based off a couple of sentences on an internet forum.
Well, you don't have to believe me, you can look up statistics on median heights and weights of the relative nations yourself.
However, I will concede that a better distinction may be "populations at high altitudes tend to be smaller and leaner than those at sea-level or low altitudes." Given that much of East Africa is at high altitudes, and West Africa low, this accounts for the disparity.

Ask the large proportion who visit this message board and somehow believe East African distance dominance is not genetic. What has been the genetic heritage of the vast majority of US sprinters over time ?

No they aren’t, just West Africans that moved east.

LetsRun scientific racism gets 22 upvotes and 2 downvotes.
It's not just an American phenomena. Why aren't there many West African distance runners? Why aren't there many East African sprinters? Why aren't there many North African sprinters?
