Ferguson Rotich?? Both him and Korir are clearly done (with doping). Wanyomi peaks in Kenya at the start of each season, and Kinyamal is probably pushing 30.
Rotich is 33 and still competitive despite that being pretty ancient for the 800. One of the most consistent 800m runners of the last 10 years. Kinyamal is running near his personal bests at 800 and 400 (relay) in a young man's event ~ not sure why he'd be pushing 30. He also never had any incentive to lie about his age as he didn't compete as a junior. Wanyonyi peaked in Kenya despite winning a loaded DL in Paris in a new PB and winning Kenyan trials. Korir I mean his injuries have been covered but winning back-to-back golds and DL finals is quite the accomplishment. The 800 is completely wide open this year, but it's easy to remember you predicting Kenya would be shut out of the finals at Worlds and the Commonwealth Games last year.
Two Olympic gold medals and a WR. The guy is extremely wealthy in Kenya. Doesn’t have to worry about money for the rest of his life. Why would he try to grind back to be an also ran?
I put on 35 pounds in 12 months after I stopped racing. Going from 90 MPW to maybe 10 MPW, keeping the same food intake, and increasing alcohol intake will do that to you.
Of course no where in Rudisha's league but I had run 1:50 and I doubt I was breaking 2:10 twelve months down the road.
how he looked makes him more suspicious. the world record holder in the 800 didn't even have a 6 pack? because he is taking crazy chemicals to help his speed and endurance.
What makes him suspicious is the fact that there have been 250+ Kenyan doping busts, 65+ currently suspended with the head of the AIU stating the number will soar further with better testing, that 6 out of the fastest 11 Kenyan 800m runners in 2017 have been busted, that 1/3 of the men's team at London 2017 have been busted, that 5 out of 11 of the male Kenyan winners at the 2014,2016,2018 World U20 champs have been busted including both Kenyan 800m winners. Only a loon or a paid up Kenyan doping shill would not find a Kenyan running 1:40 suspicious before the ABP.
And if we want to get really hard headed, he stopped racing as soon as the ABP was beginning to bite, he mentored Elijah Manangoi, Brother Colm recently had an athlete busted...etc.
Eh, every endurance sport has its doping issues. The fact that Kenya has guys actually getting busted for doping seems indicative of decent testing procedures at least. And seeing as Kiprop got busted, their testing agencies clearly aren’t averse to nabbing superstars.
Anyone who watched Rudisha run in 2012 will tell you that he was the most perfect 800m runner they’d ever seen. The man was just born for the event. I spent a decade of my life as a half miler and probably watched close to a thousand 800s. I’ve seen state, NCAA, national, and world champions run. I’ve never seen an athlete like Rudisha.
Assuming we take Coe as clean (I assume you think so given your username? Unless it’s ironic…?), it really isn’t far-fetched to think that the combination of (1) modern training, (2) modern track surfaces, and (3) modern shoes coupled with (4) an athlete clearly so much more optimized for an event than anyone else in history could drop ~.7 off the times run in the ‘80s. If you think Kipketer was clean, ~.2 off in a 14 year span, again with (1) - (4), seems pretty reasonable.

This ^ Thank you. Yes, beautiful to watch, and uniquely tuned for the 800m. And he pulled others along to all time bests, boosted the event.
