"Jama and Mo’s relationship starts (on social media at least) in 2011, just after Mo Farah moved to Portland, Oregon to train with Alberto Salazar and the Nike Oregon Project.
28th May 2011: Jama Aden’s brother (and ex international athlete) Ibrahim Aden visits Mo Farah in his new home in Portland. Jama Aden coached athlete Abubaker Kaki is also pictured with Mo and his family.
31st August 2011: Jama Aden and Mo Farah pose for a photo together at the world championships in Daegu. It was at these championships that Farah announced himself on the world stage, at the age of 28.
7th April 2012 – Jama Aden emails Mo Farah’s then coach Alberto Salazar regarding workouts in Iten, Kenya
Mo Farah was training in Kenya in January and February of 2012, at the same time as Jama Aden trained athlete Abubaker Kaki, according to an article posted in the Sunday Times:
“Now he (Farah) is the world champion at 5,000 metres, the master at beating the Kenyans at their own game. Radcliffe watched with interest as a horde of athletes and admirers followed Farah to the rough-hewn track here. Also there was Abubaker Kaki, oof Sudan, a two-time world champion. “Everyone was watching Mo,” Radcliffe said. “I’ve been there and that’s pressure, but it rolled off him and it was Kaki who cracked. That was really, really impressive.””
10th October 2013: Mo Farah publishes his autobiography, ‘Twin Ambitions’ and confirms that he has, by 2013, known Jama Aden for a considerable amount of time.
16th July 2014: Mo Farah posts a picture on Instagram and Twitter. He claims to be training in Font Romeu, France. Eagle-eyed fans quickly correct him, and tell him he is in Sabadell, Spain, where Jama Aden’s athletes often train in the summer. This strange/ convenient location mix up happens one day before he is first pictured with Jama Aden’s training group.
17th July 2014: Mo Farah is pictured with Jama Aden and a number of his athletes, including Ayanlah Souleiman, Youssouf Hiss Bachir and the massage therapist who was working for Jama at the time, Youness Elhiri.
19th July 2014: Mo Farah is again pictured with Jama, Jama’s massage therapist and several of the same athletes as above, and also Genzebe Dibaba & Betty Desalegn
15th January 2015: Mo is pictured training with a number of Jama’s athletes at an altitude training camp in Ethiopia on @muosab.a (Musaeb Balla’s) Instagram account. One of the hashtags on the picture is #jamagroup
21st January 2015: Mo Farah is pictured with Jama Aden and a large group of Jama’s athletes after a training session. These athletes include world championship medalists Ayanleh Souleiman and Abubaker Kaki. Two pictures of the same training session appear, one on a Facebook page dedicated to Coach Jama Aden and one on Ayanleh Souleiman’s official Instagram account
February 2015 – Hamza Driouch, aged 19 and coached by Jama Aden, is banned for irregularities in his biological passport. His results since 2012 (when he was 17-years old) are annulled due to these irregularities, indicating that he had been doping since that time. In an interview with a French journalist, Odile Baudrier, Driouch claims “The doping problem is not from me, it comes from the coach Jama Aden.” He suggests that Jama gave him vitamins and injections for recovery and these led to him being banned. Just over two weeks later he retracted his claims in an email to Baudrier.
18th February 2015 – Now this is interesting. Mo Farah training with Sisay Tsegaye, the man he punched in the neck in 2019. Later photos from Tsegaye’s Facebook reveal that he was coached by Jama Aden. There are also several reports in Spanish newspapers that Tsegaye was a training partner of Genzebe Dibaba, one of Jama’s most prominent athletes.
March 2015 – Mo Farah trains with Jama Aden’s athletes, including a banned Hamza Driouch in Ethiopia. Farah’s agent, Ricky Simms, claims that Farah was training alone in Ethiopia, and that he hired some local athletes to train with him. (
) Farah was also pictured travelling in a minibus and eating a meal with Driouch, on Driouch’s Facebook page, which makes Driouch seem more like a training partner than some hired help.
12th of May 2015: Jama Aden’s daughter posts a collage that her father had made on twitter. It implies that Jama had helped with Mo’s preparations for the Doha Diamond League which was due to take place three days after the photo was posted. Mo is pictured with Jama and Jama’s athletes as they prepare to race. It looks like Jama is still providing a coaching role to Mo, three months after the “one week” that British Athletics claim was the only time Jama called out lap times for Mo, in March 2015
15th May 2015: Jama Aden’s daughter posts a selfie she has taken with Mo Farah on the day of the Doha Diamond League.
26th January 2016: Mo Farah is pictured training in Ethiopia with Jama Aden’s athletes. You can see Jama Aden, and his massage therapist Youness Elhiri, standing on the infield. This does not correlate with British Athletics’ statement that Jama Aden had not been used in 2016.
February 2017: According to Haile Gebrselassie, Mo Farah wanted Jama Aden to stay in his Yaya Village Resort hotel in Ethiopia, but Haile refused to allow it as Jama had been arrested and questioned regarding EPO being discovered in his hotel in Sabadell, Spain in June 2016.
There are no pictures confirming that Mo and Jama were together in Ethiopia at this time, however given that Genzebe Dibaba and Mo Farah shared a track on the third of February 2017, it is highly likely that Mo and Jama’s paths crossed once again.
Maybe all of the photos above do not convince you. Maybe you like to take people at their word. Maybe you genuinely believe that when Mo and Jama reunited in 2011, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016 (and, according to Haile Gebrselassie, also 2017) they took a photograph together and no more. But if you believe all of that, then how do you explain this document from El Confidencial in Spain? (https://www.elconfidencial.com/amp/deportes/atletismo/2016-06-26/dopaje-sabadell-jama-aden-operacion-rial-mossos-doping_1222935/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=%5BECTwitterNocheAutomatico%5D&__twitter_impression=true)
As explained in the article linked above, this is a list of athletes that were accredited to use the Sabadell track. Jama Aden is listed as a coach (“entrenador”) and Mo Farah is named alongside many of Jama Aden’s athletes. It is undeniable, upon seeing this document, that on at least one occasion Jama Aden acted as a coach to Mo Farah. Therefore, it is undeniable that Mo Farah and his representatives have lied repeatedly to conceal this fact.
