Good to know Grant is well on the mend and by the sounds of things will be competing again at some point this summer.
Wishing him the very best. He is a great US athlete, competitor and roll model for young and old runners.
The article is an interesting read. Grant as always is very open about what he is experiencing and articulates such very well every time I read or listen to his interviews. With Grant, when it comes to a potentially negative component of an interview he is very savvy to respond in a way where one has to read between the lines. In this case, his explanation about his training caused me to think he was not happy in how it has gone this season.
Training is about athlete and coach striking a balanced individualized plan. I wonder what Jerry Schumacher feels he did differently with Grant this year versus how well training and competing went for Grant last year?
My other takeaway from reading this article is positivity. The positivity of a Grant wanting to do his best to be competitive with the best in the world and timing of an injury.
There are many wonderful athletes that struggle and endure and train and compete, get injured and come back better then ever. The dedication they have in a sport that isn’t as glamorous in the USA as it is in Europe and the sacrifices they make to be the best they can be - I really applaud them for their strength and the pleasure they bring to an old track hack like me.
