McSweyn was one of two pace makers and the plan was never for him to lead the entire race but to take over when the other pacer dropped out. I stand by my 3:28 if it’s a fast race. Happy to eat several pieces of humble pie if I’m wrong. Not ego driven like many on here.
He was one of three pacemakers and I know he was the designated final pacer, I was just clarifying how he basically raced a paced 1200. It does look like it might be too windy for super quick times, so I doubt we’ll get an accurate gauge of his present ability in a 3:28-type race. I too will readily admit I was wrong if he runs sub-3:30, finishes top 3 or within a few tenths of the win, but unlike you I am ego driven 👍

I would stat prepping that pie now my friend. If McSweyn goes sub 3.29 I will run the masters race at NZXC naked next weekend
No, I’m more than aware of his pacing duties. On the contrary, I think you’re unaware of the history of slower times at the London DL and completely out of touch with actual abilities of specific athletes.
Umm let’s see… this season Cheruiyot has run 3:29.08, Nuguse has run 3:29.02, McSweyn has a PB of 3:29.51 and in my opinion appears to be coming back into his very top form after helping pace 80% of a 1500m race a week ago which was won in 3:27.14. They are all are peaking for Worlds in a few weeks time. Yes you’re right. I am completely out of touch with their abilities..rolls eyes.
Come on back to this thread when it’s done. We’ll see who is correct.
Olli Hoare announced earlier today that he won’t be running due to a right pelvic issue. Aussie Adam Spencer from Wisconsin comes in to the field to replace Hoare.

Timothy Cheruiyot 3:28.76, Stewart McSweyn 3:28.81, Yared Nuguse 3:29.02. Other mentions Sam Tanner 3:30.56, Cole Hocker 3:32.21
Not a chance. There hasn't been a sub-3:30 race for the last two years without Jakob. Nuguse wins in 3:31, Hoare second in 3:31-high, Cheruiyot 3rd, Gourley 4th. Not sure where Hocker will finish, but he'll probably run 3:33-high to 3:34-low
Not a full victory lap, but I was right that it wouldn't go sub-3:30. Still no sub-3:30 race for two years without Jakob.
But... it was a great race even if it wasn't fast. Probably the best of the season in terms of competitiveness. Nuguse held on well but Gourley was closing like a train.
As I wrote Narve Gilje Nordås at the podium. He ran a too fast third round 54.6 and anvanced from 13th to first. Next time i.e. The World Championship he will do better.
Ok maybe I was a bit optimistic on the winning times but 12 runners sub 3:32, wow!
Nom nom nom humble pie! McSweyn sub 3.29 c’mon man
Fair is fair haha. Although the race overall was a lot faster than most on here predicted. My humble pie doesn’t taste too bad. I do think it is only a matter of time before McSweyn is back sub 3:30 however and even possibly sub 3:29. Most likely scenario a super fast rabbited Jakob race. Am just happy to see McSweyn getting back to his best. He’s been down and out for a while.

Nice pick on Nuguse winning along with his time and close on Gourley also. Gourley was flying down that home stretch!
