I don’t think many male collegians only slightly slower than Faith Kipyegon are likely to find success in the discus at the collegiate level. Their odds are probably about on par with male discus throwers who can’t throw farther than Valerie Allman succeeding in the mile.
"Male collegiate athletes" includes people in a whole lot of sports other than track. You're saying that an NFL-bound QB should just walk away from the sport if he isn't also a fast 1500m runner?
Anyone that can’t spell discuss should quit college.
I thought it was a tradition around here to deliberately misspell that word because someone did it long ago, and people went with it to be funny. It's ALMOST ALWAYS spelled wrong at letsrun
I totally agree. It just sucks that Mehdi Yanouri (4:12.07) and Eli Bennett (4:10.02) will have to quit after such promising seasons in which they made the NCAA finals in their respective events. Sadly, their coaches should have known the risks involved before signing them up to race the mile in the first place.
Many of the collegiate athletes that run over 4:07 don’t get paid to train 24/7 , they don’t inject EPO, they don’t inject testosterone, they don’t experiment with research chemicals on their pet rocks either. You follow me ?
Training 24/7 alone won't help if you don't have the talent.
