Perhaps a possibility, but I would not say a decent chance. With no Amos, Braizer, Korir or Cheruiyot, you would think this is the easiest year to medal, but unfortunately Murphy and Hoppel appear to have peaked early and are currently in the twilight of their career. You can only watch so many races before you start to believe what your eyes are telling you. No consistency lately; both of these athletes have built an entire career off of a couple good races. Right now, our best half-miler is a college freshman. - If I seem disappointed, it is because I am. (The Men's 800m is our weakest event!) I will never understand how a nation can have half of the top-10 400m sprinters and not one 800m runner in the top-10. Except for the racewalk, there is no other event where we don't have an athlete ranked in the top-10.

Jacob is good but not the best. Like someone said up here, he has no chance of breaking 1500m world record. The Africans are better than him talentwise. At his very best, he will barely break 3:27.

What makes Jacob tick is his brain. More like Mo Farah used his brains to win world championship and Olympic titles when he ( Farah) could barely break 27 mins and 13 mins. Both take charge of the races and control them, slowing them down at will to fit their plan. The tactic confuses the Africans who are afraid to aggressively attack races from the start. Put Jacob in a race similar to the 2001 world championship 5000m final or the 2003 world championship 10000m and you will realize the king is naked!

You know that 12:41 was Kiplimo’s first track race in almost a year.

He went straight from the roads to a 12:41 with ~ 8:01 last & laps.

Aren´t you just a little bit biased?

If Jakob isn´t the best, who is? In the 1500m, the 3000m and the 5000m?

Jakob is normally not going to the front to slow down the pace. On the contrary when he goes to the front in the 5000m he is squeezing the pace the last laps.

See the 5000m WC and EC finals last year. (Some times I get the impression that some people here just speculates WITHOUT WATCHING THE RELEVANT RACES AND NOT KNOWING THE RELEVANT FACTS ABOUT TIMES AND PLACEMENTS).

I suppose you are certain that Kiplimo´s narrow win in the 3000m after Jakob was pacing the last 500m almost 3 years ago will mean that Kiplimo will be the superior for the rest of their careers?

It will possible not bother you that Jakob recently ran a 2 mile which converts to a 3000m more than 7 seconds faster than the one he ran against Kiplimo?

Right now our best 800m runner is sitting at home because of a wacky DQ that didnt change the outcome of the semi final he won.

And yet, Kiplimo’s 5k was arguably more impressive than Jakob’s 2 mile.

I am not biased! Mo Farah did pretty much the same thing - go to the front and push really hard the last few laps. You don't have to be at the front to slow down races. You can stay at the very back and keep everyone guessing what your strategy is and when you are going to make the move. I have never understood this but most athletes seem to have no strategy of their own and only react to "alpha" athlete's move. They basically dance to his or her tune!

It’s encouraging that we know both Kiplimo and Aregawi are game to make ambitious WR bids, whether it’s going through 10k ridiculously fast in a half or running 3:40.0 for the first 1500 of a 3k. Both split ~7:30.7 (12:31.1 pace) for the last 3k of their recent 5ks, Kiplimo with the last K in 2:24.2 and Aregawi ~41.4 for his last 300. They are both within a shout of the WR. The trick will be finding pacers who can make it to halfway in 6:18-6:20, which basically requires ~7:35 fitness to do reliably.

What do you think about Jakob Ingebrigtsen choice to NEVER run 5.000m in Diamond League's events? I mean he is of course the strongest in 1500m and in an interview i've read he said that he was trying to focus on 5.000m

Why does he never try to compete against the best in DL? The 21 July Monaco meeting could have been a great test for him.
