I like Boling too. He runs a great relay leg and will likely end up getting a relay gold at Worlds. He's a young sprinter competing in the US. You make the US team in any role and you are doing very well.
Wasted too much time in the 100m when it was clear he is not a 100m runner. Will never make a team in the 100/200, so should stick to the 400 considering the competition is much weaker.
9.98 100m pb and 6.56 60m pb. World class (albeit not 1st tier)
The problem for him he doesn't run for Canada, GB, Australia etc. Times like that are a dime a dozen in the US.
Just way too much talent in the US for runners with his abilities.
I guess I don't understand the reasoning on this website sometimes. Boling's wind legal high school PR in the 100 (10.11) and collegiate PR (10.13) would have put him 5th in the 100m finals on Friday night, he's run some better wind aided times so there's a decent chance he could make the top 4. Granted that's without Fred Kerley but that would still put Boling in the 4x100 relay pool. He finished 6th in the 400, and is still about a second away from competing for the win versus about .15 seconds in the 100. IMO Boling is closer in the 100, combined with the fact that he would have been really competitive in the LJ. He could have a pretty good career out of qualifying for major competitions and even vying for a medal in the LJ and making appearances on relay teams once in a while in the 100 or even sneaking onto a team in the 200 once in a while. He ran a 45.51 for the 400 indoors back in 2021, so two and half years later on an outdoor track and he's improved about .4 seconds in the 400. I just don't see him dropping another second to become a really competitive 400 meter runner.

how long has he been training for the 400? you can look at his 100/200 results from this past spring. not impressive and he wouldn't have made it out of the prelims this weekend in the 100. questionable whether he would have made the 200 finals.
He knows how several years of 100/200 training have turned out and apparently he's not pleased with the results, so he's taking a shot somewhere else. best wishes to him.
