Cal Baptist has seen some success and i’m pretty sure 99% of their recruits are foreign.
Ok. Do you think the top 50 distance/mid distance boys and girls in CA are looking at Cal Baptist? So they can either go for the 21 minute 5k girl/guy equivalent or bring in a foreign runners who can actually compete.
Palmer coached Amaris Tyynismaa whose HS PRs were 4:57/10:32. 18 months after arriving on campus she finished 3rd in the NCAA XC championship and then was AA in the 1500 with a 4:09 PR. She then ran the Olympic trials. Not too bad for a sophomore year.
You all realize that recruiting is maybe the biggest factor for NCAA success. THE biggest. Quit your complaining there are so many scholarships out there for decent women for track and field. Let’s be honest s lot of American high school cross country is filled with no cut hobby joggers that need an activity.
The internet exists, if you are good they will find you.
I am tired and bored of hearing this argument. Been hearing it for 20 years. Getting internationals is well within the rules of the NCAA, just because you don’t agree with it doesn’t make it wrong or illegal. The bottom line is you have to recruit talent, keep that talent healthy, and depending on the level of talent develop it or maintain it. Winning is winning. Doesn’t matter if you have 5 white boys from Montana or 5 Kenyans, the trophy goes to the best 5 out there. You might have more respect for the 5 white boys from Montana but that’s YOUR problem to cope with. Accept it and move on.

It’s an easy move to get athletes with fake papers like Alabama did and now Florida. It’s harder to develop 18 year old talent from the states, but way more respected.
call it my problem all you want. I’m proud of the teams that do the right thing.
I agree with the faking papers. That’s illegal and not respectable. You can’t just generalize every international student/program that has internationals with faked papers though. You obviously just have some weird thing against non-American student-athletes in the NCAA. I can probably guess who you voted for in 2016 and 2020…
The Oregon duck womens team and Washington love to give away spots to American runners for foreign born athletes. That’s why there is no buy in from their fans.
Real Question: what does these "student"-athletes study at the schools, do they graduate and what do when if they're "pro" aspirations flame out? (Feets pics?)

Voting in 2018, 2020 has noting to do with coaches who taking the easy way out and buying older established internationals athletes to get in the podium. Not saying you have to be anti international, but do it the right way. Basically do the opposite as Will Palmer. The man can not coach and knows very well his athlete , athletes are over 30. How is that good for the NCAA or anyone involved.
I have no problem with foreign, but I have a problem with older. NCAA Div 1 should be 18 - 23 and that's it. Adolescence. which ends at age 23 for women and 25 for men (or that's the end of their brain development).

Tell this to the new Florida coach Will Palmer. He has 30+ women with kids at the top of his teams
well since no one pays attention to juco besides juco coaches, you must be one of the schools that leaves nationals early since you can’t take part in the trophy ceremony, guess you should start coaching better as well!
I assure you that's not the case haha. But using your same logic, if no one cares about juco, except juco coaches; and you cared enough to reply, you clearly must be one of those 'top' coaches, 'coaching' your teams to those trophy ceremonies.
This guy really is funny, “you must be one of those coaches that wins trophies and championships, so you suck…” 😂😂😂🤷🏽♂️

Well looks like you guys gave it away haha.. Eric and Wesley, c'mon chill out, we know you guys are coaches of the year, so clearly you know how to Coach lol... I mean who cares if the foreigners you guys get are slower training under you, than when they were back in their home country. Winning, and coaching are 2 different teams. There are teams and coaches that you are correct, do not win but they develop. Then there are 'coaches' like you who cannot win without the foreign talent. So yes that's cool, enjoy the foreign bought trophies.

I fell for this trap last year, Amaris was a 7th & 8th grade prodigy who could have been top 10 at FL those years had she been eligible to compete. Then she faded in HS as she battled illness. She was off the national recruiting radar, but still a known commodity in her home state of Alabama. Her refinding herself is a great story, and she's quite the character adding a lot to the scene.
It's a bit like if this year the Ping sisters join Taylor Roe to finish top 10 at NCAA.

Our local D2 had a Kenyan woman several years ago who I believe was older than 18-22. Won a conference championship, set school records, etc. Majored in biology and taught at the private school my kid attended. Got her Ph.D. and became a U.S. citizen later. She's now a biology professor at a D1 research institution.
I don't have any problem with coaches recruiting foreigners as long as they aren't then abused at the school. The coach and team get excellent athletes, sometimes with international experience already, and the athletes get an american university education.
