Her PR was 22.39 in college but based on her Paris race she could probably run 22.2-22.4 right now, 21.8 when she peaks, and 21.5-21.6 if she trained for it
21.5-21.6? You’re crazy.
I would say she is more in the 22.2 range, +/- .05, at her best.
At least around 21.8-21.9. She ran 22.3 in college and has improved exponentially in her only event.

Which isn't the 200. If she improved the same in that event she would be racing it.
That's not how it works. Even if SML and her coach believe she's capable of running 21.9 (and maybe better if she commits to it), they have nothing to gain and everything to lose by racing it.
Breaking WRs and winning major championship golds is what gets you national attention and endorsement money. Why would she ever leave the 400h to be the #7 ranked 200m runner?

So you know she could only be ranked 7? Not 5 or 6 - or 8? Only 21.9 - not 21.7 or 21.8 (or 22.0)? Such certitude, when you have no definite measure of what she is capable of over the distance. Any athlete capable of beating 22-flat is competitive at championship level. If she was that fast she would likely also run that event because it may surprise you that athletes compete in more than one event if they can succeed at those events.

What? Absolutely not. Why on earth would she race the 200 when she runs 50.6?
Because 21.8 is competitive in the 200m - if she could run it. Athletes often compete in more than one event, if they are any good at those other events.

Maybe she could, but it's a strange double that has no real crossover, and she has no reason to attempt it in general. Also, the championship schedules during every championship she has participated in haven't been conducive to a 200-400h double, especially considering she usually does the 4x400.

1. She has raced more than one event. She did the 4x400 at Doha, Tokyo and Eugene
2. Just because an athlete is capable of a double doesn't mean they will. I'm sure she could have raced the 400 in years before, but she's obviously focused on taking down the WR in the 400h, and then taking it somewhere no one else can touch.

We are not talking about the 400 but the 200 and the absurd claim here that she would effectively be one of the fastest in the world over that distance.

The reason there is no real "crossover" between these events is that they require vastly different capabilities. Hers are for the longer event and the hurdles in particular, not the 200.

Not absurd at all. Syd is a generational talent that would excel in a number of events had she chosen to specialize in them.
Also - Gabby Thomas - 49.6, 22.0, 11.0 this season. I have no doubt Syd could do something similar, if not faster.

There is no crossover because there is no reason to do both at a championship. If there was prestige associated with 200/400h, then we would see people doing it.

There is easily as much prestige in a flat race - particularly a sprint - as in a hurdles.

The term "generational talent" is the bollocks used to argue that an athlete is capable of every kind of absurdity. It's more aptly a euphemism for "doped to the gills".
