This one of of the best running performances of all time, seriously. This would’ve been the men’s record until 2010, just unreal
Hahahahaha there are women running 14:06 for 5k and losing and you think this is close to an all time effort??
Your failure to comprehend does not make this a failure of accomplishment. Courtney was 70 minutes (almost 10%) faster than a record that some thought might have been the best women's performance ever.
That is actually a good idea, a "Traillight" drone. Should I develop a small flying drone that follows waypoints at like 10 ft off the ground. You set the speed to your desired pace and it flies above and in front of you both showing the way while shining a pace light for you. The delux version can have a tiny camera in it so you can get photos/videos.
0/10
You'll need to run along underneath your small drone to swap out battery packs every 1000 feet, or so. Good luck with that.

at first i was like meh who cares, but she has 400k+ followers on instagram. so... chances are, aside from the letsrun niche, way more people care about her ultra feat than a 14:06 5k
It's incredible how narrow the gap is between the best men and women in the ultras. You don't exactly see this in the sprints.
I would love to know exactly why. Of course there are several theories about this.
Congratulations to Courtney.
Not really, she was still 9.5% behind the male record. Don’t get me wrong, Dauwalter is absolutely amazing and deserves all the praise she gets. However, let’s not perpetuate the myth that the top women are somehow closer to the top men in ultra running.
Yes, I think that is fair to say that women are "where they should be in terms of the gap." What I do think is spurious click-bait is when they say "women are as fast as men" in a race where an elite women trounces chumps like me. Well, then yes. But they aren't trouncing Walmsley.
Courtney represents everything right about running. She is the rare athlete that seems genuinely happy and humble. She makes time for fans, goes on podcasts both large and small, has a quirky but not off-putting personality, and just seems like a great all-around person. I honestly wish that most of our sport's stars had half of the positive personality that she brings to the table.
She couldn't run 14:05 on a track but Kipyegon probably couldn't do what Dauwalter does either. Different sports with vastly different demands and no need to compare. Both are amazing athletes worthy of great respect and admiration.

p.s. I am a HUGE fan of Dauwalter!
Walmsley got chicked by Kaci Lickteig at Western States in 2016. Beat him by 47 minutes.

38yo woman runs faster than Killian and Mathieu who almost crushed Killian. All who want to believe in miracles, congrats! You've just found a new golden bull to worship. Remember, hard work will get you there one day. Or, as they say in cycling, it's just "pane e acqua"

100%. the sport is SO lucky to have a representative like her. Very rarely is the top athlete also the best personality in the sport. Obviously different in mountain ability than Kilian, but both are revered in a similar way in the trail world. Really nice to see how Courtney is loved in Europe
It’s apples and oranges. No reason to compare road efforts to trail. A different sport
In one of the deepest fields ever across the board at Western States, Courtney came 6th overall. Some of her splits on the famous segments on the course are top 10 overall EVER. Truly remarkable

The ratio of the Women's (15:29) to Men's (14:09) course records at Western States is 1.09. The ratio of the Women's (10.49) to Men's (9.58) world records at 100 meters is 1.09. You do EXACTLY see this same "narrow" gender gap in the sprints. This same gender difference of 9-10% holds across the running world records at every distance. There are no novel theories required to explain a different gender gap at long versus short distances because there is none. Men are better than women at running by the same degree from 100 meters to 100 miles.
Courtney is truly a master at the craft of trail running and she seems to find a lot of happiness in that arena. It's awesome to see someone do so well at something hard.
You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about, and it's pretty funny how confidently incorrect you are. There are many fast men that cannot touch 15:29 at Western States

I know I will get downvoted, but this is not impressive at all. She is running 9 minute miles.
Gidey ran 4:48 pace for an hour (her half marathon).
Are you really comparing the pace of running 13 miles on a flat course with that of running 100 miles of trail with 40,000 feet of elevation change, some at altitude with the trail covered with snow? How many rivers or creeks did Gidey cross in her race?
Gidey is amazing but I see no point in making irrelevant comparisons between her and Courtney.

She beat the course record by 78 minutes, but in the first 16 miles she was 16 minutes behind course record pace — likely due to running in heavy snow this year. Without the snow, she may have gone much faster.
