We merged two threads on the same subject into 1. The original thread was entitled, "Mo Katie closes in 1:47.1 to run 3:36, winning euro team champs." We merged it with this thread which was started by LRC's Rojo.
And just for clarity…his split was 1:46.0, and the final time was 3:36.80 which I believe is what was intended for the parenthetical.
Rui Silva actually ran his last 800 slightly faster than El Guerrouj in that 2004 Olympic race for bronze (1:46.3), but had been positioned further back.
Isaac Nadar has an even more suspicious progression than Katir! Drops from 3:39 to 3:31 in a year at age 23, after 5 years hovering around the 3:40 level. Seems it's back to the crazy 90's for Iberia. Wouldn't surprise me if he is in the same training group as Katir and that other Spaniard who has dropped 8 seconds this year.
Another reason Jakob can't let the 1500m go slow, the final 800 was faster than his season's best in the 800 last year. Could Mo be the guy to beat Jakob?
Wightman has already beaten Jakob. Nuguse will be the next person to beat him.

It has your video, your (faulty?) splits and brief discussion of the fastest final 800 in a 1500 (1:47.1 is slower than El G, Lagat and Silva closed in Athens btw).
