For a second I thought this was at altitude, but this is in Spain, right? Hilarious that she split 14:40 at halfway. Our 5K/10K women are so outclassed on the world stage. It must be so discouraging to be Cranny and run a 14:33 AR in the 5000i and then see Tsegay split a few ticks closer for the first 5 of her 10. Also -- does Gidey not running mean she has no way to qualify? In the past, Ethiopia has retained ability to just put people on the team, right? I recall they put Girma or Wale or someone in the 5000 in Tokyo.

Gidey’s World champion so she gets a bye/4th spot on their team

Gidey as Defending World Champion is already Qualified, Ethiopa gets 4 People in the Race at the World Championships

She is automatically qualified as defending World Champion and has her own place

Yeah during the Shelby/Schweizer time trials it was tempting to be like they’re getting close. It’s now become kinda clear that there’re several sub-14:10 and 29:20 women who just hadnt necessarily time/trialed yet.

Actually I now remembered it was Wale in the 3000SC when he had only run the 5000 at the trials. Then he blew up because he isn't a steepler.

Ah, I forgot she had ever won, I've seen her get outkicked so many times.

By two nations and the Ethiopian-born Hassan, sure.
Enough to be 20-30 seconds or more out of the medals in a 10K, anyway. I don't feel our men are quite so outclassed with at least Fisher and Chelimo being near medal territory in recent years.

“Not a steepler” who’s been 4th in 3 global championships and won 3 DL steeples. Not easy to do as an Ethiopian 5k runner, and more than anything he just has 2-3 outlier performances he can’t replicate.
I thought Ethiopia chose by times? I thought that's why Kejelcha went for such a fast 5k time. Or is it like Australia where first place is guaranteed a spot on the team and the other 2 spots are discretionary?
